Many Thanks for your replies. All that's a great help and I have taken notes!
Cheers.

Image quality is the most important thing with myself. From start to finish with the right lens it's shot on to the right enlarger and lens I print up on.

I have been checking out ebay and to my surprise you can get a really nice
vintage Leica Range Finder for a decent price. My only concern is I might be
sold a fake, even though the seller might really believe it to be real.
Could anybody point me in the direction of any books or web links e.t.c. on
this subject?
Does anybody know anyone in the UK that runs a service to validate original
Leica's?
Thanks.

Thanks alot thats very helpful. Yeah, I will be shooting black and white on the whole, so this sounds really great.

Hi,
Sorry if this question had been asked before but I can't find anything on the
internet.
Simple really! Are Mamiya Press Cameras any good?! They are nice and cheap and
I like the idea of trying 6 x 9
Do they match upto say Bronica / Pentax / other medium format Mamiya SLR 6 x
6/7?
Thanks.

Many Thanks.

Hi,
I've just got a Mamiya RB Pro S. I've already got a Pentax 645 which does are
the exposure for you.
I've had a good look around the net, but I can't seem to find a good guide on
how to set up the exposure on a total manual medium format.
I would like to know more about using light meters, using the flash e.t.c.
Any links?!
Thanks,
Mick.

Alright thanks. I've never heard of the KL lens. I'll check it out.

Many Thanks!

Hi,
I've just one the above camera body and parts on ebay. All I need now is the
lens! I obviously know Mamiya make lenses but are their any other manufacturers
out there?
Also including the Mamiya lenses what would be in this day and age the best
quality lens for camera? I'm only stating out on this, so I only want a
standard size lens.
Thanks.

Thanks for the link. Your work is excellent and very inspiring for me to look into 5x4. Some really nice shots on there.
-
Many thanks for your replies. Yeah, with what I have seen at 11" x 14" it's about a draw with what I've seen.
Like the link states there are so many issues at play here.

Hi,
I've just been looking at the results of the 5D which are nothing short of
exceptional. I was wondering if anybody has ever compared the detail to 5x4?
On first inspections it would appear the results are about the same if not
better than 5x4?
Thanks.
-
I guess I'm more after a SLR, but if I came across the right range finder at the right price I would take it.
-
Thanks for that. The detail is quite incredible. What set up did you use to take this shot?
Thanks.
-
Thanks everybody. Robert X, yeah that was about the size I was thinking of. I just really want to see the detail.
I'm thinking of going 5x4 but I want to see if I think it's worth it compared to other mediums.
-
I was wondering if anyone knew of a site that had downloads of very large
scans of 5x4 images?
If you look at this site -
http://www.dpreview.com/gallery/
They have the photograph and then an option for the full size digital image.
It would be nice to see some 5x4 images around the same size.
Thanks.

I printed up some old Victorian plates that were 14" x 12". Put it all together in photoshop. Even then the quality was great.
-
I'll certainly keep it in mind. I love the US prices, but I live in the UK and after VAT and import duty things it's not really worth the hassle.
I was looking at the KEH site. Amazing prices compared to over here.
-
I use a Pentax 645 and I would be very interested to see the difference between that and a 67.
-
Thanks again for all your replies. I'm making a mental note and see what conclusion I can come to.
On another note would a Fuji 6x9 produce better quality photographs than say a Bronica, Pentax or Mamiya 6x7. I know the obvious size of the negative difference, but I was more thinking of the lens quality e.t.c.
-
Many Thanks for your answers. What is KEH?
Thanks.
-
I was thinking about getting a 6x7. I don't really want to spend that much. I
was wondering what the board could recommend. I love the idea of the Pentax
6x7. I already own a Pentax 645 and like that very much. But I was wondering
if say an old bottom of the range Mamiya could produce the same quality of
print that say something like the Pentax 6x7 can?
Any suggestions?
Thanks.

Oh Alright!
Thats forward thinking.
Bootleg Epson Cartridges?
in The Digital Darkroom: Process, Technique & Printing
Posted
Hi,
I've found some 'genuine' epson cartridges for sale at about a third of the
retail price and they are still in date.
My question is through everybody's experience have you ever come across bootleg
cartridges in the same packaging e.t.c. as Epson or whatever other manufacture
only for them to be to cheap copies?
I ask because I don't want to mess up my printer in the long run. I have had a
good look around and I can't find any mention. Just the usual 3rd party inks.
Thanks.
