  1. Hi!

After countless tests with my Nikon 9000 I settled down using Vuescan for my

B&W negs. However - I'm not quite sure about my colornegative scans. With

Vuescan I get pictures with a nice dynamic range and great, smoot skintones,

but with very unpleasant transitions to very dark areas. The worst thing is

that dark areas in the vuescan-scans show very strong rgb-noise. When scanning

the Negatives (mostly Portra 160nc) with Nikonscan 4.0.2, the image looks more

contrasty, the skintones are good but not great - but there is no noise in the

dark areas. My question: Is there a solution for the noiseproblem in Vuescan?

  2. Hi!

I just got the Nikon 9000 Film Scanner and experienced some highlight-clipping

with the Nikon Scan-Software and B&W-Film. On my previous model (Minolta Elite

5400) I scanned them as 16bit Linears and converted them via Silverfast HDR

(which I still own). Is there a way to scan 16bit Raws in the Nikon Scan-

Software? I tried scanning the Negs as Positives, but the image came out waaay

too dark. Any solution for this?

  3. Hello!

I'm interested in buying the Nikon 8000/9000 Film-Scanner and have some

    questions about them:

    - What are the advantages of the 9000 over the 8000 in terms of image quality

    and speed?

    - Is Digital ICE still possible with the optional Glass-Holder? Is it still

    possible when wetmounting the film?

    - Is it possible to use a USA-Model in Europe (Germany) because of the

    different voltage?

    - How does these models perform with silver-based b&w-Film and negative-film

(Portra 160NC). I'm not doing any slides.

Thanks in advance for your answers!

  4. Hi!

I'm planning to buy a new scanner, mainly to do MF-Scans. My Budget is about

1000 Euros. Do you have any recommendations? It should give me the highest

resolution (for the money) and Digital ICE. My main candidates so far are the

    Epson V700 or V750-models. I've previously owned a Microtek Artixscan 120tf

(aka Polaroid Sprintscan 120) but wasn't too fond of it because of its banding-

issues, the lack of ICE and the unpredictable sharpness-issue. Any other

alternatives than the Epson Flatbeds for that money?

    Thanks,

    Peter

  5. I noticed that a) some of my shots taken in direct sunlight were underexposed, b) the reading differs from the one in my Leica M6, and c) the reading differs from the reading in my Digi-SLR (Canon 1d Mk2). Its histogram indicates that there's an underexposure by 1 to 1 1/2 stops. However - when measuring during overcast sky, the sekonic meters correctly.
  6. Hi!

After having tested light meters of different Brands (Sekonik and Gossen), I

noticed on both models a severe underexposure (about 1 1/2 to 2 stops) when

used in strong sunlight. I'm talking of the incident method here, with the

white dome over the cell. My question is whether this is normal - so that I

always compensate the reading when using the meter in strong sunlight - or not.

    Any help would be apprechiated.

    Thanks!

    Peter
