  1. <p>hmmm, if you setup like a RAID 1 system which it is a mirror so if one hard drive fail, the other one take over without loose of data, all you need to do is to buy a replacement hard drive of the same size or bigger and let the system rebuild the fail drive in the RAID system. <br /> The only downside is as an example, buying 2 1tb hard drive, won't give you 2tb, rather 1tb total mirror.</p>
  2. Recently I went to my friend house who has a Nikon 9000, the original stock medium format trail can accommodate 2 6x7 or 3 645 frame, which mean I have to cut the film to scan it.

Not sure about the glass film holder.

For the 6x17, do you have to cut the film with the glass holder?

  3. I just send in my pentax 645Nii for repair, so it is still there.

Also I heard, the pentax medium format is only discontinue in the USA but not in Japan so they still making it.

Don't quote me on that, just do some internet research.

  4. According to this articles, it look like it might happen. Look for June 28, 2006.

just in case, as time goes by and the articles dissappear

Fujifilm raises film prices by July 1, will discontinue some slide films

Fuji Photo Film Co. Ltd., Tokyo, Japan, announced the detail of film price revision effective July 1. Raised prices will be applied to 35mm color print film and reversal film, color reversal roll film (120); color reversal sheet-film and color print film in cartridge (110), reports JPEA International PEN News Weekly. Prices of color reversal film will be raised 3-10 percent. The manufacturer no longer suggests list prices for color print film (single roll. The price revision is not applicable to One-Time-Use Cameras (OTUC).

Selling price of 35mm print film have dropped significantly for a past few years, and trade watchers are curious to see if the price on the street will promptly reflect the price revision this time, says PEN News Weekly.

"With the shrinking demand, slight price revision upward may not affect film sales. We had good mind to raise prices and are ready to revise our prices upward parallel to Fuji's price revision," comments a Tokyo dealer.

In additional new, Fujifilm Imaging is streamlining the lineup of color transparency film. Following the introduction of Fujichrome PROVIA 400 film last April, the TRE BI 400 slide film will be discontinued around July this year. Also disappearing will be some multi-roll packs and long film of PROVIA 100F, VELVIA and VELVIA100F due to markedly decreased demand, reports PEN News Weekly.

  5. I have been going to Calypso in Santa Clara, California the last couple of years

to do my film developing either E-6 or C-41. I like Calypso and I like their

    services.

But starting 6/1/06, they are no longer doing c-41 and you have to have an

account with them. if you don't have an account with them, they will charge you

a minimum of $15 for any services. Well, I just don't shoot as much to have an

account with them. Sometime I got just 1 roll of 120 but I can not process

there because of their new policy unless I pay $15 buck for a $4 film process.

If you go to their website, they haven't update their webpage. if you call

    them, they will tell you.

Does any body know of any other places in the South Bay around San Jose, Santa

Clara, Sunnyvale CA, ETC that do film processing?

I know about San Francisco Newlab, Robin, Chromework and other labs there but I

am not interested in that area. I am just interest in the South Bay.

    Thanks

  6. "What aspects of the Brown line are compatible with Novatron's? What components work together, what don't, etc. "

I don't think he meant compatable as in compatible. I think he meant they are on the same line. One of the rule of thumb, you should not interchange parts with different manufactures.

  7. I have use this powerpack at school. If you won this items, I see a manual in the picture. Did you get it?

I used it once and I believe I still remember. I have an idea on how the Symetrical/Asymmetrical switch work. But I will let someone answer first. If they haven't figure it out, I will reply back.

by the way, you can call Speedotron. They got good customer services Even if that powerpack is out of warranty, they still can help you with your question. I believe their phone number is 312-787-8405

  8. Where did you purchase the L-558. Is this the USA version or the Grey market version? I may be wrong but I heard if you purchase a grey market version, it will not work with the PocketWizard since they are different frequency. The U.S version use the FCC while the grey market use the EC frequency.
  9. I just have my F100 repair by Nikon service center in Torrance, CA. USA. The total charge was $179 + $10 shipping.

This was the services repair order:

Service level B2( Moderate Repair : Major Parts Replaced)

    RPL top cover complete

    RPL grip unit

    RPR main sw(power sw)

    CKD shuttle release

    CKD auto focus operation

    general check & clean.

This problem was the power switch that I have to toggle on/off. sometime when power off, it will not power off. I have toggle or remove the battery. And when turn on, I have to toggle off/on to turn it on.

There were couple of think I didn't quite undersdand why the replace the top cover and grip unit. The only problem I got was the switch.

But overall, the camera arrive in one piece and I am satisfies especially with the cleanning.

  10. One thing they forgot to mention. For studio work, the Pentax is very limited on what you can do. The sync speed for the 67 is 1/30 and the 645 is 1/60. Depend on lighting situation or mix lighting, it might or might not work. Althought Pentax got one or two leaf shuttle lens that can go higher.

But for outdoor, it is a great camera.

  11. I did bought quite a few Pentax medium format camera from Adorama. Adorama sell both USA and Gray market. I did bought the USA version. When I receive my camera, there was no warranty card so I call Adorama and they send me one. The warranty card is very generic. It is not like other manufactures where they embedded the serial number to the warranty card.

Sometime my instinct tell me different so I call Pentax and they toll me the same as you did. They can not track it. And I ask them about the warranty card. They told me the warranty card when you send it in, it is for marketing purpose and has nothing to do when you need services.

For services under warranty, all they need is the receipt. and lucky my receipt say Pentax 67II USA. or Pentax 645 USA.
