I am surprised this phot hasn't received more comments and higher ratings. Perhaps it is one of those that (a) must be viewed large, (b) requires a well calibrated monitor or © is best seen in a larger print on matt paper? The tonality and mystery of the vague and dimly lit objects is just great.

As someone who spends his entire life with companies developing technologies that seek to mitigate Climate Change, this image is particularly effective because it puts the sun right between a bleak firey future and a happier blue sky one. Since much of the debate will ultimately center on our choice between solar power and fossil fuels this image may be far more representative than it seems at first glance.

In looking more closely at some Iris photos today, it suddenly ocurred
to me what the life of a tiny bug might be like wandering into a gateway
such as this.

Just as I was leaving Point Reyes for the evening I caught sight of a set
of antlers in my rearview mirror. Turns out there were more than one....

Too dark and moody or appropriately mysterious?

8 Second exposure of the waves crashing through the famous portal at
Big Sur

Pushing the shadows makes for more noise but was the only way to get
close to the full dynamic range here

Colin: Other than curves adjustments and increasing the vibrance in the RAW conversion process, there is no photoshop editing here.

Days end at Lake Josephine - Not my usual style but this seemed too
peaceful to mess with.

My favorite from five days of what seems like nothing but
waterfalls - Glacier National Park

Bear cubs at play in Glacier National Park. I was thinking about
picking up 100-400 for this trip and when I saw these guys I really
regretted not having it as the 200 was a bit too short.

Although they are both of the same scene, this one seems a bit flatter, perhaps because the light and dark tones seem more evenly spread across the picture.

Sitting here on Russain Ridge and watching the sun set over the
Pacific is one of my favorite spots.

One of the most beautiful lakes I have ever seen -- my photograph
fall falls short of what my eyes could see. I must schedule a
second visit to this Canadian gem.

One of the benefits of digital photography is that on a cold rainy
winter day you can always pull up and work on an image from a
beautiful sprng evening...

Sparkling a royal diamond blue, this succulent captures its elixir
of life. Actually a fortunate coincidence, since I didn't catch the
water reflection until I looked at this in PhotoShop.

View large to see time lapse effect on breaking wave.

Playing with neutral density gradients on a winter evening in Point
Lobos, Carmel California

I was playing around with longer exposures (to soften the wave
effects) and got a nice fireworks effect from a bigger wave.

I liked the three dimensionality created by the background
highlights. Comments welcome.

Walter: This really captures the warmth of the sunset in a way that makes an often photographed object (the sunset) seem new again. Great depth of field, well done.

One of the few places still lush and green at this time of the year
in this part of California. I liked the way that the arched
branches completed the circle started by the flow of the rocks.

I love the lazy afternoon in a time long past feel to this. My only criticism would be that the distant building looks in sharper focus than the nearby blossoms and that takes the feeling of depth away.
