Even better. thanks for the link

Anyone know if there is a PDF version of this manual on the web? My
brother is stationed overseas and lost his manual.

Not exactly on the topic but I used mine this weekend at around 25F. Battery lasted all of 90 minutes on a FULL charge. Very dissapointing.

Thanks for the info Chuck, I will give them a look.

I am open to other suggestions.

I just purchased two alien bee B800s and am thoroughly unimpressed
with their stands. I would say they are pretty unstable extended over
8ft. Not what I expect from a 10 foot stand. Anyone know a better
stand for about the same price? $40usd

Hyun, good point. most of it was done at a lab but quite a bit was slide film which would not be compensated for by the lab. The vast majority of my slide film came out perfect as far as fill flash.

I am sure the above comment was addressed towards thread originator. However, my monitor is calibrated and prints just fine once levels are adjusted so I have ruled that out for my issues.

I have a 10D and 420ex and find 90% of my flash images consistently underexposed. Very seldom did I have this problem on my ElanIIe with the same 420ex. A levels adjustments fixes alot of the images but this is still a very annoying issue. attached is a before and after level adjustment image. The image is not even one of the drastic ones.

550ex would be good for weddings. I wouldn't however recommend shooting fully manual as you will under/overexpose many shots this way. 420ex might be a little underpowered for the group shots.

<i>"I just need a flash that will overcome the dark area at the bottom of the pic using the 17-40...just a good all-purpose flash"</i><br><br><br>
550 sounds overkill for your situation. get the 420ex. I have it and am thoroughly happy with it. However I will be getting the 550ex as well for specific shooting situations where the 420 just doesn't shoot far enough.

exchange it if you can or it will drive you nuts in the future.

Get yourself some Fuji NPH400. Definitely do some test shots ahead of time and bracket if you need to. A white Brides dress can fool the TTL metering system so be sure and compensate. Other than that you might want to ask specific questions if you want some better answers.

A2e is closer to a pro level body than the 7. I believe it also gives you spot metering which the 7 does not. I like the feel of A2e better but it has some minor annoyances such as not displaying all the viewfinder info in manual mode.

Thanks for the answers guys. I have thoroughly read the photonotes articls. Still doesn't make sense. What would be the best way to approach this shot? If ettl forces it to use evaluative metering which "is suitable even for backlit subjects. The subject's postion, brightness, background, front lighting, back lighting, and other conditions are detected at the focusing point. A suitable exposure is therefore determined" according to the manual then it should properly expose. I had the camera set to partial metering which is supposed to be best for backlit subjects. If it used partial then it should have exposed properly. what gives?

After getting halfway through a shoot I realized I left my 420ex set
to high speed sync. I was shooting in AV mode with max sync speed of
1/200. I am assuming the flash was still firing in high speed mode
correct? Flash was acting very underpowered and I am thinking this
was the problem.
thanks

yeah their "guest" camera is an Elan II. when was that discontinued? time for new episodes!

play with high ISOs and see if they will work for you. Get a fast lens (2.8) or use the flash. exactly how dark is "low light"?

Zoom Browser is painful at best. I think I will have to try one of the third party solutions. thanks for all the info....
-
Thanks for the idea. I will have to see if my dvd player will handle vcds.
-
unfortunately my PCs are located down in the basement. I can easily do composite or S-video out but it is too far to make the run worth it. I have seen the third party devices but was really hoping the camera would take care of it for me. no such luck I guess.

so is there some other way to do this?

Anyone know a good place to purchase both seamless paper or muslin in
the Denver area? Denver Pro Photo has very limited stock. Signature
Background doesn't appear to have what I am looking for either. (dark
gray seamless paper). Thanks for any suggestions.
