The Canon is much better than the Sigma, but if you have a 1.3x frame factor or full frame camera, you cannot use the lens at all.
-
D2x is not fill frame and I worry if the white balance is as bad as the D2h. My boss wants the D2x but wil wait until the jury returns.
And yes, one's head can explode easily here. I think it is easier to find you a wife here than a lens! :-)

I'll bet that all the non-D lenses on Ebay are because the owner is getting a D lens.
-
I did this with my NikonD100, only 6 megapixels.
-
The D lens takes distance into account when the camera does it's calculating. This is most useful when using the flash.

I debated the 50-500 and ther 80-400 as well. I got the 80-400 because of the VR. I traded it because the VR was slow and got the 70-200VR. I wish the Sigma had VR!

I sold my Nikon gear and went Canon (for the third time). I got te 1DsII and for lenses got:
24-70/2.8L
70-200/2.8L
400/5.6L
Now you ought to know that I sold the 70-200/2.8L to get the IS version and it makes a difference to me. I wish I had purchased this one in the first place. Next on my list, and probably before the rebate runs out, are:
50/1.4
100 Macro
Then I'll pretty much be set for lenses until I can afford the 300/2.8IS. I thought about the 20mm, 16-35 or 17-40 and I find that the 24-70 covers what I need the vast majority of the time. I want the 50mm for more light and the 100 as the only macro lens I will have.
I did have the Nikon 80-400VR and 70-200VR, they were the way to go. Definitely get the Canon IS lenses if you can afford it. I sold my 70-200 for $150 less than I paid for it, not too shabby for a 6 month old lens. That's less than a dollar a day rental. :-)

I'm one of those weird people who keep the box, plastic, even the bag from the camera store, it can immensely help when I resell the gear. I wonder if I can send in the entire box to Canon, uncut, and give them postage to send it back to me?

Wait until the waranty runs out or you may end up with an expensive paperweight.
-
I'd worry about any lens that only has two elements.
-
I have a Lexar 40X 2GB and Sandisk Ultra II 2GB. I hear the Lexar has a better warranty and better guts.
Almosat time to upgrade to 4GB cards.

I want a 1.0.

We used to let the photo labs worry about this. I also feel my L lenses are soft but once in a while I get lucky. And the DOF is not forgiving, I need as much as I can get.

My Nikon F5 was not allowed on a Northwest flight because it was "too heavy" and therefore must have something in it besides parts. That was way back in 1996 before they started hiring the more competent peeple they have today. of course now I have a 1D. I wonder if the original 1D, or the Kodak/Canon and Kodak/Nikon digital giants are worthy of flying.
I guess you can mail them, they may end up in the mail bag on the very same plane.
Better yet, tape over "Canon" with "Fisher-Price" and take it along.

You can always get the 480EX potato masher flash by Canon. It is older but the guide number can't be beat.

I was at CES with my 1DMkII and got to play with the 1DsMkII. The Canon rep told me it will be an expensive moment for me because I will love the extra pixels.
Truth is, I hardly notice. I did like the fact that my 24-70 became a true 24-70, but that was about all I enjoyed. The motor speed is half of my camera, and when I came home and played with the files, the 10.0MB 1DsII image beside my 1DII 6.5MB image did not pop out and grab me.
I will buy another 1DMkII and the 300/2.8IS before even thinking about the 1DsII. But that's just me.

ASA 400 on the D2H is like 1000 on the D100. I dumped my D2H, I hope they get it right on the D2X!
-
I have the 400/5.6L and I am amazed at the results it gives me. I use it alone or wiht the 1.4x, and it still beats out the 24-70/2.8L and the 70-200/2.8L in my opinion! The images (steady ones anyway) are tack sharp no matter how much I enlarge them. I cannot tell that the TC was used on them either. I am suprised at the quality, and how silent most users are on it.

The grass is always greener.... I have berated myself for many a trade.

I saw the D2X at CES in Las Vegas and played with it. The Nikon rep knew I was a pro and I had sold my D2H for a myriad of issues. He told me reasons it is not out yet and things that Nikon is still working on. A lot of it has to do with the software, and Nikon is indeed worried that they will mess this one up too.
-
My digibin copies 2GB in 9 minutes. If anything can beat that I will trade it in.
-
Yup, I install the patches right away. The difference is not noticable to me, but I think the camera knows the difference.

The Lexar rescue software ONLY works if you use their cable. Buy Photoshop 9.0 just for the rescue program, it gets everything.
