  1. I sold my Nikon gear and went Canon (for the third time). I got te 1DsII and for lenses got:

    24-70/2.8L

    70-200/2.8L

    400/5.6L

Now you ought to know that I sold the 70-200/2.8L to get the IS version and it makes a difference to me. I wish I had purchased this one in the first place. Next on my list, and probably before the rebate runs out, are:

    50/1.4

    100 Macro

Then I'll pretty much be set for lenses until I can afford the 300/2.8IS. I thought about the 20mm, 16-35 or 17-40 and I find that the 24-70 covers what I need the vast majority of the time. I want the 50mm for more light and the 100 as the only macro lens I will have.

I did have the Nikon 80-400VR and 70-200VR, they were the way to go. Definitely get the Canon IS lenses if you can afford it. I sold my 70-200 for $150 less than I paid for it, not too shabby for a 6 month old lens. That's less than a dollar a day rental. :-)

  2. My Nikon F5 was not allowed on a Northwest flight because it was "too heavy" and therefore must have something in it besides parts. That was way back in 1996 before they started hiring the more competent peeple they have today. of course now I have a 1D. I wonder if the original 1D, or the Kodak/Canon and Kodak/Nikon digital giants are worthy of flying.

I guess you can mail them, they may end up in the mail bag on the very same plane.

Better yet, tape over "Canon" with "Fisher-Price" and take it along.

  3. I was at CES with my 1DMkII and got to play with the 1DsMkII. The Canon rep told me it will be an expensive moment for me because I will love the extra pixels.

Truth is, I hardly notice. I did like the fact that my 24-70 became a true 24-70, but that was about all I enjoyed. The motor speed is half of my camera, and when I came home and played with the files, the 10.0MB 1DsII image beside my 1DII 6.5MB image did not pop out and grab me.

I will buy another 1DMkII and the 300/2.8IS before even thinking about the 1DsII. But that's just me.

  4. I have the 400/5.6L and I am amazed at the results it gives me. I use it alone or wiht the 1.4x, and it still beats out the 24-70/2.8L and the 70-200/2.8L in my opinion! The images (steady ones anyway) are tack sharp no matter how much I enlarge them. I cannot tell that the TC was used on them either. I am suprised at the quality, and how silent most users are on it.
  5. I saw the D2X at CES in Las Vegas and played with it. The Nikon rep knew I was a pro and I had sold my D2H for a myriad of issues. He told me reasons it is not out yet and things that Nikon is still working on. A lot of it has to do with the software, and Nikon is indeed worried that they will mess this one up too.
