I've tried multiple cords and start up routines. It has a complete mind of it's own. I may just buy a cheap PC laptop for $400 that has a firewire port just to scan.

-

I have tried Vuescan, and it has worked as inconsistently as the nikon software. Now the Scanner won't even boot up as long as the firewire cord is plugged into my Imac.

I cannot get my Apple to recognize my Nikon LS-8000 consistently, so I am contemplating buying a cheap PC to run the scans on. I know I need a firewire port. Does the software work well and consistently with Vista? I know it doesn't work with 64-bit. But it works well with Vista 32-bit? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

I think facilities have been upgraded. I'm hoping someone has been there recently and can tell me that they successfully had them hand inspected.

-

I am leaving in a week for Vietnam, Cambodia and Thailand and will be taking film. Has anyone had any experience in requesting hand inspection of film in these countries?

Thanks in advance,

If you can, try and overnight in Landmannalaugar. It is a really unique landscape and was my favorite place in Iceland. Also, Skaftafell is also a beautiful area. I would skip Geysir, it was underwhelming.
Iceland is one of my favorite trips I've ever taken. You will be spening a lot less than I did, though!
Enjoy it!

we are going to be shooting in a park, so finding a flat white background will be next to impossible. I will
look into the large fold up reflector. Maybe that will work. Thanks.
-
Does anyone have suggestions for a plain background (white) for an outside shoot that would give a similar feel as a
plain white studio background? I need something simple that will not draw attention and can be mobile.
Best,
Andrew

I have been contemplating a Epson 3800 versus an Espon 4880, and looked into some math for savings using roll
versus cut paper. I check B&H because it is local and found the following, to my suprise.
Cut 17x22 is app. 2.6 sq. ft. A pack of 50 gives you 130 sq. feet, at a cost of $164.50, or about $1.26 per sq. ft.
Roll paper is 17" by 40', or 1.42 ft. by 40 ft. for a total of 56.7 sq. ft. at a cost of $87.95, or $1.55 per sq. ft.
Is this right? that roll paper costs more than cut paper? Is this typical of all papers? When people speak of
efficiencies using roll paper, are they referring to being able to only print off what one needs versus a whole sheet of
paper?
Thanks,
Andrew

I am headed to Vietnam in the winter (along with Cambodia and Thailand). What towns
do you recommend?

Berg:
I was there last october with a Canon 5D, and Rollei and had no problems whatsoever.
It is a marvelous city. The typical amount of care as you would have when traveling in
any big city is necessary (carry wallet in front pocket, keep bags zipped up, etc) apply,
but we had no problems at all. Have a wonderful time!

utter annoyance, just like when any other major political figure shows up here in NYC. They are reversing 5th avenue for the guy. ugh.
-
I never had any problems at Union Station. O'Hare would be a difficult place to photograph. IN the terminal, you are allowed to photograph as long as you aren't capturing the security locations. At least that is how it was a couple of years ago. Be aware of sensitivities to where you are.

Thanks everyone. This allays my concern that it was too dark. I've got some fast lenses and can shoot up to 1600 well, so I'm in good shape. Thanks again.

Thanks.

I have a good idea of what is in store, as I lived there as a child. Can
someone tell me how bright the subway cars are? Are they dim or bright?

Photography is anything I choose to shoot with my camera, in whatever fashion I decide. ;)

Michael. Cuba is something I feel much more passionately about. I spent two weeks there, and the subject matter come more easily for me.
Clearly the photos will be better :) The Jackson Heights was my first venture into another part of NYC the week I moved here. i think that there is something there to examine, but yes, these were taken over the psan of a couple of hours. I will be revisiting JH. Of course, Cuba I would kill to get back to! Last time I went, I went legally.
-
Thanks for the responses. Truth be told, I simply dumped the pictures in. I have since editted out. The main point of this little photo adventure wass simply to demonstrate how the latin american community in JH has assimilated, and not assimilated into the culture here in NYC.
I was drawn to how much the neighborhood seemed like many of the places in latin America that I have traveled. I have edited out the "noise". Now I think the photos that are left have more purpose for what I was trying to demonstrate. The items might be subtle IMHO. Clearly I need to to more ruthless editting :)

Would love some feedback on the following photos...

I'm afraid to change it on the desktop one. I just reset to default and nothing changed. I jsut
need to know how to bring up the other filters.
-
I mean that under "Filter" there are only four possible selections. Artistic is not one of them.
On my Imac desktop, there is a selection of artistic under filters, on my laptop with the same
software, it is not there.
-
Now I cannot select adding film grain in CS2, the artistic menu has
disappeared. Any suggestions?
