    Jen, I appreciate your response.

I feel sometimes I get too technical with the equipment and don't always focus my attention where it matters.

Also, I feel that I am kink of cheating when given the occasion, I switch to any non-manual mode. That is something that I have to get over I guess.

    Thanks again. AJM

    Great capture Jan.

I feel ice cold just looking at this.

I am curious to know if you shoot in Shutter priority and or Aperature priority exclusively. I have always used manual mode and was quite curious. The pro that I work with finds it utterly offensive to use anything other than manual mode.

You seem to have quite a good feel for technique, so your opinion would be valued.

    Moutaz,

    Thanks for the comment.

First, There isn't as much brightness as my other shots simply because the rudder on the right was sooo bright that I had to expose mostly for that and hope that I picked up enough light throughout the rest of the photo.

Second, I usually take these shots on Sunday night, so no, there wasn't a lot of activity in the buildings.

Third, Yes, I did add an element of softness to this one. Mostly just an experiment to see what people like. I have this same photo in a very sharp version. If you like I will post it. Thanks again for the kind words. AJM

I rated the way I did for a few reasons. Before I comment though, I'd like to tell you that I am not a professional photographer (not by a long shot) and I still have a lot to learn - hence why I do not comment on a lot of pictures I rate

Interesting, so your qualified enough to rate, but not comment? In my book, it should be the other way around, because if you can't articulate or define your rating you have no business rating.

The last thing as a beginner you should be doing is rating the amount of photos you do. I dont have a problem with you rating photos, but you seem to rate based on "your cup of tea", I have a real problem with that. There are a lot of subjects that I can't stand, but if the picture is technically sound then I will rate accordingly based on technical merit. There are tons of every subject out there. a million cats, a million dogs, a million snapshots of people, and a million portraits. Does that mean everyone of them gets a bad rating for originallity?

I can take a bad rating. No problem, but you should re-evaluate your rating practices especially since you are an admitted newbie.

  1. And hey, at least now I know which one of those hills is Mt. Adams

Yeah, Mt. Adams provides some great photographic opportunity. Everything from what you see here to some of the many parks that surround it.

If you can get up there during the WEBN fireworks in August/Sept., you will get some great shots, but I think they button down the hill to only residents.

Thanks for your comment and review.

  2. Steve,

I have gone back now since the river is sooo high. I have posted one pano from that excursion in my folder and look forward to getting a couple more in.

To answer your question (or comment) about my method of stitching: I don't use in camera stitching (I dont think it can even do that), I use PS photostitch. So, I technically could re-shoot this and bring down the exposure in another shot and replace the overexposed section. Or I could just adjust the exposure in PS.

    Thanks for your review. AJM

  3. Thanks Steve.

This is not the best view of Sawyer Point, but I couldnt resist the sky.

I do have to admit, this is heavilly PShopped to bring everything but the bright sun UP a bit. Unfortunately, the original is MUCH more colorful and saturated. I had a hard time there for a while getting what I saw in PS to what I saw on the web. I have since figured it out and will maybe try to repost if I do.

    Thanks, AJM

  4. Thomas,

I have far too many of these in my Cincinnati ohio folder . Please check em out and tell me your thoughts. I will gladly return the favor if you like.

As soon as I get done typing, I am jumping into your folder.

    Regards, AJM

  5. Wonderfull idea. What format did you use?

I used photoshop CS photostitch. It does a pretty good job. If you look thru my folder at a couple of other panos I did, they were done with PS Elements and I think they were done quite nicely.

Dazzlingly beautiful Send the concierge a copy or link to this shot and he'll be nice to every photogrpaher that enters the lobby. Great stitching, too!

If you could do it again, get the building tops and lose a few cars lower right.

Dan, You are exactly right. I had the building tops in the shot but had to crop them out when I cropped the entire pano. SUCKS!!!

As I was leaving, I told the concierege I would send her a copy of my best shot.

As far as the cars go, they dont bother me tooo much. They kind of give a sense of perspective.

Rio thanks for the nice compliment. Did you ever go back and redo that street shot from the restaurant???

    thanks again,

Part of my evergrowing Cincinnati collection. I had a hell of a time getting the colors exact from PS. This is the result of tedious adjustment and frustration. I hope you like it and don't forget to leave a comment or critique!

    Thanks, AJM

  6. Although your title implies that this was a quick snapshot type of situation, your picture says much more. Your street light is not entirely blown out, the people didnt seem to move a whole lot and you captured a long enough exposure to get the dramatic affect of a brilliant light show. Would I be correct that this is about a 4 to 8 second exposure?

    Help~~~

Michael, Your timing is spot on. You really have to be ready or have shot a ton leading up to this to get this capture. I think every good shot comes out that way. Good work.

From what I can tell on this low res web image the PS work looks flawless. I love the concept and the execution. I would love to see the background a little bit lighter to bring out the tree just slightly more. Do you agree or disagree?

    Great job, AJM

  7. Joe, Maybe the post is a little too dominant. It just hits you right in the face when you are looking at it. I think if you angled her away from the post and still shot her straight away you would eliminate the wood railing.

I finally got around to checking into what you mentioned.

  8. This is part of my Cincinnati OH series. This shot was taken at about

5pm and the sun was so bright that I had to take a very short

exposure and bring back the details in PS. I hope you leave a

    comment, good or otherwise.

DG, I can understand your reasoning and I wasn't offended. Some people on this site really abuse this forum and it is extremely frustrating to see critiques posted multiple (sometimes 10+) times because these PN'ers are simply trying to get to the top of the TR page.

As I said before you are a good photographer and you are really creative. I hope you do well and thanks for the response.
