  1. Due to the light composition, this picture is hard to manage. There is a huge contrast between shadows and highlights... and imho, the trunk is a bit too centered. If you enjoy working with high contrasts like this one, I suggest that you focus on easily readible subjects such as subjects :

-well defined with lines or curves

-normally having subtle tone changing (such as a human face, etc.)

    Smiling?

Proximity gives us a true taste of what this woman life has been... That's what makes photography so unique.

Which lens did you use ? I'm using a classic 50 and am curious about knowing about this one...

A few comments on this one as well as its folder would help a lot!

    thanks a lot !

as an info these pictures are from a small band I know around here,

that play a great music with a great spirit as well.

Yes! I'm ok for the cropping. A little bit darker is right, but not so much... I'm still wondering what kind of fish this man was hoping to get in such a dirty river (la seine, Paris)

huh, also... thanks for the comment.

The shadow line appear to disturb my perception of the space, here. Quite interesting.

The cross shakes the mind also.

Good composition. I would "wow" in front of a true print of this one !

  2. As I always feel, b&w photography is for beautiful prints on silver paper ;-)

However, I have a great feeling about this picture.

Just one thing that would greatly improve it:

lighten a bit the daughter's face (in photoshop).

Under the enlarger (I wish you to have one, if you still not...), just dodge 1/3 of the base time.

I would also add some artificial vignetting to the picture.

Creating an light progression to your central subject often helps understanding & reading your picture the way you want to show it.

    Great & sensitive photography, anyway.

Can you also have a look a my folder "I'm not sure I was there" (photos in thailand)?

    Go on shooting...

I like the rich tones of the picture...

However, the snow/dust on foreground disturb me a bit. I would like darken the center of the image (to see a bit better the man...)

    good eye !

It is a good frame, but I think somebody's missing on the left chair. The picture doesn't make as much sense without this person... Anyway, good use of the different size of object, and available rich tones (white, brown). Go on shooting!

The unfocused ramp on the left doesn't work for me. Darkening it a bit under the enlarger will work, for sure.

The rest of the picture is quite interesting as a "descent" to purgatory...
