I use the 90mm frameline a lot for lenses from 85 to 100mm and outside of framing issues which I've learned to use focusing properly is a nonissue.
-
I had the first "fat" TE and then the thin one which I still have. Both are fine and the thin version is much lighter. I use it a lot. The rubber hood more or less disintergrated so I use the 90mm clipon hood. I also have the 90mm Elmarit which I used the lens head primarily with a bellows for closeup.

As far as I am concerned Bokeh refers to the out of focus areas in a picture. I strongly believe that good and bad is highly subjective and one should use ones own standards and completely ignore any other ideas. To give you an example the out of focus donuts seen in Mirror lenses are considered bad Bokeh by many. I like the donuts and to me it's good Bokeh.

Awhile back I posted this question before and got answers that no
one knew what it meant. Well the word has crept back. I have no idea
whether this means less or more than mint. Certainly it's rediculous
to invent a new catagory when we already have mint and mint- which
are a problem catagory in themselves. When this whole nuttiness
started years ago the Shutterbug Ads catagories seemed to be, and to
me, still are enough.

they vary from Crap to passable workmanlike cameras. Some are lyrical over their virtues. I am not one of those. Buying them on Ebay is basically a gamble and some considering they should be very cheap so it's worth a try to get decent one. Again, I'm not one of those.

the battery cover is the same as the M6 with the coin slot added. I haven't checked the TTL but if it takes the same # of batteries the cover should be the same. The M7 takes twice the number of batteries as the M6 or the MP.

I looked at a report on the WCBS TV NYC of Paypal problems with
freezing accounts without real explanation and unfreezing with money
missing with any explanation. All there was were platitudes from
the vice president about bad experiences and they are sorry. I saw
little evidence from Ebay they care. Again, I am sure that I'll get
postings saying how wonderful ebay is but all admit to problems so
any one who wants to use it needs to be aware I see no evidence Ebay
who owns Paypal even cares unless they get bad publicity

His rapidwinder for the M4-2 and above used the same "dog" on the bottom of the camera with the baseplate removed used for the Motor winder. The M2 and the original MP had its winder engauge with a extention of the takeup pole. I suppose anything can be done but it is not cheap in any way. Tom did make a rapid winder for the M2 so check with him for availibility. He's very open very good at answering his e-mail. So really no upgrade is possible in any real sense.

all M6s and M6TTLs have this increased potential for flare. It all started with changes in the M4-2 finder during it's run.
-
It is not fully clear when the upgrade in the M7 was done. According to "Leica Courier" it occurred at # 2885000, just a little higher than the camera you have. Maybe that's why it was so cheap. Both my M6s from 1985 and 1987 flared hugely and now are both flare free with the addition of the condensor lens in the finder. Apparantly the first fix for the M7 was some further coating of the finder. I tried two M7s of that vintage and both were quite bad. I'm still not totally sure that serial number above is when the new condensor lens was put into the finder. But the documentation above is all I have seen.

striped off the http://www. stuff and then it worked. Loads slow as mollasses with a 2mg cable modem. I 'm still waiting for the first picture.

copied and pasted link. it's dead.

You now have seem the source of the mystique of the Summar. It's has a lot of flare to begin with made worse by the dirt that 70 years of accumulation has done with also attendant scratches of the soft glass. Actually for its time it was not a bad lens but that time is over. Only you can decide whether it's worth the money to clean it up. It was inferior to the Sonnar of it's day because it had many more air glass interfaces compared to the cemented elements of the Sonnar (precoating).

To me this is more proof that Ebay is more of a crapshoot than most realize. Again ebay is not a large tag sale, most of the sellers are are job lot sellers who get rid of extra inventory and ebay is really let the buyer beware. The tag sale types are a minor part of their business. Ebay really doesn't care unless they are caughr. They should be doing the screening. It's their business. Me, I strictly look.

I used M3s, a M2 and some M4s with the MR4 meter and the handheld Calculite. When I got an M5 and then a CL and I found the meter more convenient and more accurate. The M6 were the icing on the cake and that's basically what I use plus a CLE occassionally. With the new flare free finder, that settled the case.
-
2,885,xxx seems to be when the new MP type finder was installed but that's not 100% clear.

You have the choice of finding a junker or a stolen top plate. Leica will not give out a top plate without getting another in return of the same type.
-
These cases are all quite old and you may cause stitches to break by forcing it. Certainly not a good fit.
-
As one of louder complainers regarding M6 flare, I am very happy with the results on both my M6s neither of which now flare. The main fix is the addition of a condensor lens.

As I understand it selenium meter cells don't die but the accompaning wiring, etc. does. I don't know the expense to fix it up and of course there are no new parts. They need to be scavanged.

In between my 40 years of Leica nuttiness, still evident, I tried a Leicaflex and then a SL and was disturbed by the lack of real viable zoom lenses and bought a Nikon F3 and then a FM2n with several lenses plus the Visoflex lenses I had. After many years of using both the Leica Ms and the Nikons, I came to the conclusion I really preferred the Leica Ms and the Nikons have remained unused for some time except for the occassional need to use really long telephotos. I do have the 180 f2.8 ED but since I managed to work out using a rangefinder coupled 180mm f6.3 Teletessar and with the quality of present fast color negative film (ASA 400) I'm happy I can use the Leicas for almost everything. Since I have a Visoflex with a beamsplitter mirror installed, I'm considering trying it with a Leica M7 with a 400mm Telyt which I rarely use now.

While for me this camera is too rich for my blood, I must admit the leather should acquire a great patina with use from the oils on ones hands, face and nose.

What Stephan Daniel said at the LHSA meeting, they would love to have digital M but that they do not believe that present technology will permit it. Mr. Danial was very candid about other matters including a new digital camera in the near future so why should they suddenly not be forthcoming on this matter.
Is there a back to back M lens coupler without the hole?
