  1. Hello Daniel, a agree with your "test results" an overall washed out performance. This is the dark side, it's an old & difficult film (like Kodak Ektar25 or even Royal 100 was). Maybe bracket like you would with slide film?

Regarding your scientific approach it is not fair to shoot FD 2.8/200 glass vs. EF 2.0/100 vs. IS lenses, sometimes use the polarizer (EOS 3 70-200 2.8 IS. B+W MRC CIR POL) and sometimes not. Then scan from the prints vs. negs. In this setup above I would shoot Fuji X-tra 800 rated at E.I.400 (or NPZ 800).

I think Impresa is light hungry while not handling bright sunny outdoor contrast well. It can do some magic to portraits/flesh tones and blue colors when freshed up with lots of FLASH light (say Metz 60CT4 (200Ws)) and on a tripod.

On the bright side of Impresa is still this red car picture of Scott Eaton. I got both sides of this film myself.

Let's not forget that these "new" films have improved dark fading stability. Nowadays where Kodachrome 25 is only available through EBAY.COM at "connaisseur" aficionados prices... and light fading stability for projection and improved scanning features.

Regarding price: in some shops and different countries (e.g. Zurich/Switzerland) PRO versions films sell cheaper than Amateur Versions in others!!

  3. "NEW Sensia 100" (as of Spring 2004) is NOT Astia 100F [RAP100F]. According to the french magazine REPONSE PHOTO number 146, Mai 2004, pp.136-138: it has less good shadow detail than Astia 100F = more contrasty = USC 2.20 (but better shadow detail than Velvia 100F). Technically speaking: Upper scale contrast USC 2.20 and Toe Contrast TC 1.15 (ideal). I don't know where they get these figures from but I started to like this magazine more than the german ones (Cofo, FoMa). Test results:

    rendu valeurs: 24 P. out of max. 25 ,

    rendu coleurs 23/25 ,

    rendu details: 24/25

    (facilité d'accès & prix: ...)

two images appeared with the article: two sunny outdoor scenes comparing Velvia 100F and New Sensia 100. Hope this is useful information to the US community.

  5. If you consider a Pentacon Six TL, plan another USD/EUR 100 to get it professionally serviced (in Germany www.Baierfoto.de or Pentacon in Dresden) and you need a decent focusing screen (e.g. from Exakta 66 UER 90). Of course you can also get an Acute Matte D adapted (plain screen USD 90 ebay, grid/prism $200). The used Flektogon 4/50mm MC sells usually around EUR 150. The large polarizer filter EUR 150 as well. Ad US$90 for a Kiev60 TTL meter EUR80 to adapt it to Pentacon Six TL. All in all: The Pentacon is very light weight (<1kg). but: for not much more you can get a blad 500 V-series System with 1/500 s flash sync! If you are from Europe I would go for a Rollei 6003 and get all the comfort I am used to from 35mm SLR ! --Rainer
  6. Hi,

the original Hasselblad V-System Zeiss Sonnar F 2.8/150mm T* sells for about USD 500 - 700 on ebay occasionally (a very fair price!) for 2000FC and 200series bodies.

(the newer FE flavor for typical Hasselblad prices)

the Agiflite mounted fix-focus flavor is about US$150-200 on ebay. It's castrated:

1.) a three pin filter bay, 2.) fix-focus at infinity (close focus 150m) 3.)white envelope around it.

=>you would need a hasselblad bellows and do the metal surgery yourself. I have NOT found anybody in Germany to do this yet! (and it would cost at lot of nerves & time and money in the $200 - $300 range.

    Zeiss Germany officially declined! --Rainer
