  1. Yes, I just bought this adaptor to put a Hasselblad 250mm lens on my Pentax

645N...the fit is pretty good, nice and snug with no play, and the 250 is lighter

and much more compact than my P300 f4. I've not had it long enough to really

put it through it's paces yet. Fotodiox only tested the adaptor with the Zeiss

80mm so they could'nt say if it would focus to infinity with a longer lens or not.

My first test shots were of a bridge in the distance, but not at infinity...will

probably have more tests done this week. Don't forget you have to engage

stop down lever when you make an exposure...I was shooting wide open and

forgot the first few expsoures to do this. They offer you a return option so for

the price you can't go wrong.

  2. I've used the 300mm f4 manual focus and the AF150-300mm f5.6. The 300 f4

is a stellar lens that shines wide open...but it's a heavy lens and I feel the lack

of a tripod mount was a mistake by Pentax, technique is really important here

as vibrations can be a real problem. My best results are using it wide open to

5.6 at higher shutter speeds, letting it hang on the tripod at f22 well thats why

they made the 300 f5.6 and 150-300 f5.6...much lighter lens and more

    versatile to boot.

This is easy do you need the speed? Do you have the $1800+ for the AF 300

f4 which has a tripod collar? If no then you have a really great cheap 300 f4-

IFED lens which can be had for under $600 or a slower lighter pair in the 5.6

    AF versions.

I found the zoom had a warm cast and the f4 was a little bit more

contrasty...my opinion only.... I'd say all are capable of professional results in

    the right hands.

As mentioned above forget about using f22 when f11-16 will work just fine.

  3. One week is all you should wait to receive an e-mail estimate on repair

costs...if you've not had an e-mail from service give them a call and explain

the situation the phone person will be able to tell you if the repair has been

logged in yet. I had to get after them over the Christmas on a Canon 1d repair

two calls (first it could not be found) after waiting seven business days had my

repair turned around in three days or so.

  4. Can hold a lot of gear in it but this becomes the biggest drawback, once you load it up it's

too heavy for a shoulder bag. I use it out of the car and when I travel...lots of places for

documents etc...but as I say once you load it with two bodies and several zooms it

becomes tough to keep on the shoulder, The two side pockets have no protection and you

have to decide if your second body a lens or flash goes here. Have not found the perfect

bag...probably does not exist just like the perfect camera.

  5. I doubt you'll see any difference between the two..it's pretty easy, do you need the speed

or not. The 85f2.8 is about the same size as the 50 f1.4 so it;s compact and makes a great

travel/ walk about lens. And yes they did make a 85mm f2.8 is a MM German verion which

I have in my travel bag, sharp, contrasty and very nice bokeh.

  6. I talked to my CC company today and there may be some relief

there I just have to submit some claim froms and see what

happens, who knows if they cover the repair that would be great.

FD I only found one Chiu here if there are more I'm sure I'll hear

    from them.

Thank you all for you thoughts and input, Merry Christmas

  7. Well yesterday was a really bad day for me I could not even spell

correctly...I did pay via paypal and yes I moved the money form

my CC to my checking account which is registered with paypal

so I'm screwed there. My address is cleraly visable on the

transaction but his is not there ,why. The shipping and ins was

on him but I doubt he even paid insurance, he used a UPS store

and they will not give out the address, I guess there has to be a

little, no a lot of trust here and I was foolish in my trust.

The was no visable shipping damage and yes with electronic

cameras it can happen. Also I was hesitant to accuse anyone till

Ihad spent time trying to figure out the problem, I brought the

camera to an experienced user to confirm a problem, to say to

UPS that you damaged the camera three days later ...well I

cannot prove that. It leaves a very sour taste in my mouth and

he's saved a few bucks in the short run. I have paid for a camera

I have had to send it to Canon service pay shipping both ways

and pay for repair yet I have nothing in my hands, it's only human

nature to feel like you have been duped.

As for naming I'm not sure what the policy is here.

  8. Thank you all for your thoughs. I guess I must be unusual I

would certainly not be able to sleep well knowing I'd made

somelse so upset but i guess that's why me feedback is so

good. I made a huge error here and became too comfortable

with Paypal they will not get involved in disputes. I took the

camera to a friend whos a PJ with a large daily here who's used

1D and currently using 1D Mk11's to make sure I was not doing

someting stupid. The Af points are out of position harder to

explain but if you had it in your hand well it's obvious straight

    away.

Yes Bob I would do as you and try to resolve it and I have posted

    in the feedback section.

  9. Could have happened during shipping, it's a Pro body and according to Canon should be able to stand up to shipping it's not a cosmetic fix I'd say a 1D is a lot more durable than some guitars. This guy is hiding his identity by using a UPS stiore address. Hey, I made an error here by taking someone's feedback and steady e-amil stream for granted, I broke one of my own rules. Shipping and insurance were included. Sometimes you have to be man enough to stand up and sort a problem he's getting one over on me but it'll come back to bite him later. I'm on the other coast so it's not easy. I made several offers to sort it out but this weasel has decided it's better to screw someone over.
  10. Bought a Canon 1D camera from a photo.net community

member, had pics sent told camera was perfect low miles.

Camera arrives but the AF points are all bunched to one side of

viewfinder and are slanted or askew, not parallel on screen.

Talked to seller he says it's my problem and refuses two options

I offer, take camera back or pay for repair. I'm not a camera store

he says, not my problem I call Canon service and they have

never herad of a problem like this one. it's easy to see the

minute you rotate the main dial, any Canon user with 45AF point

experience would see somethings up. I've bought and sold here

for many years without a problem, this guy is so brazen about it,

it's like tough luck , your fault not mine. I used Payapl to pay has

anyone tried the Claim proceedure here. I'm seeting here and

close to lambasting this guy on every forum I can. Any input or

    ideas appreciated.

  11. Thanks for the input Scott...I've narrowed the problem down to

manual selection of the AF points, when I press the selection

button on the right and rotating the main dial I can see that the

points are askew as the eventually show as a group of 19 but to

the top right of the screen and tilted slighty and the last two on

the extreme right half the AF box go out of the frame.

  12. I just picked up a lightly used Canon 1D...the AF focus points all

seem to be positioned in the top right hand side of the screen

sort angled down to the center cockeyed would best described it.

Now I've used a EOS 3 before and remember the AF points

being aroud the center...right now I cannot even get a center

point. I've not changed Canon screens before but it seems to be

in place, I was thinking it may have come loose in transit. Any

    ideas?

  13. Look at the Contax S2 it's the equiv of the FM2. Contax

viewfinders have improved since the RTS of the 70's. Ad ons to

be aware of all the Contax lenses which use metal hoods need

an adaptor similar to a step up ring to attach the hood ($20-40). If

you use polarizing filters you have to remove hood to get to filter.

Customer service is poor they have a don't give a s**t attitude.

    The primes are pretty good 28/2.8, 35/1.4 and 2.8, 45 2.8

    pancake, 50/1.4 and 1.7, 60 macro, 85/1.4 and 2.8, 100/2

100macro 135/2.8 and there it ends...The Zeiss lenses are

contrasty and the 28/2.8 is probably the best out there but at this

    stage the line is old.

Also be aware this system is no longer produced the only

manual cameras on their site are the RTS 111 circa 94 and the

newer Aria...as a long time Contax/Canon user my advice is go

    with Nikon..

  14. I have the CF250 SA and providing you use correct technique, employ the pro hood and use MLU where aplicable, which is all the time for me you will reap the benefit. I think you may find the 250 too close to your 180, for me it was. I'd look at a 350 or get the 2x which combined with 180 work very well together.

The lens can be used wide open and contra jour without concern, but wide open is f5.6 so you will not get that f2.8 look, if you pay attention your backgrounds will be pleasingly soft. I used it with great effect combined with the 32E tube for larger Spring flowers like lupine.

You can e-mail me off line with any other questions

  15. Bob is correct Kyocera has pretty much abandoned it's Contax

35 / 645 film lines just like Olympus before them...the only

difference was Olympus had the b...s to admit it. Kyocera makes

it's money in other fields...call customer service sometime for a

    laugh they exude confidence!!

  16. Nearly sure the guy who runs the used dept is Izzey or Issac

anyway call used and explain the problem, say you don't feel

item was in condition described get a RMF number, yes they

have a very good set up for returning items. Copy of invoice and

a note stating why returning lens. I've done thiss so often I know

by heart....I do not buy used anymore from B+H as the the person

doing the grading has to be visually impaired. I bought a 35mm

lens same as you "demo" but it had been handled so much the

paint was worn off the aperture numbers on the ring and there

was a ton of internaldust. I was not happy I called, did the dance

and Bob's your uncle, they took return and credited my CC and

added in shipping, I had to complain to get this back. All in all

B+H is a great place for new items but stick to KEH and others

    for used.

  17. Keep it simple too many different types of film will be confusing to you and to security, all foil wrappers are now partially removed form 120 rolls and each one swabbed (at least in Boston) in th USA. Worrying about all that high speed film going through multiple x-ray passes will drive you crazy, you can always covert a color image to B+W in photoshop. Astia will be fine for landscapes and has pretty good neutral skin tones I like it as an all round film and you can push a stop. Cameras, it's easy you need two bodies I've been traveling for a long time with medium format buy my kit has been getting smaller and smaller from an RZ to a P645N / 35mm combo...I've found over time the less gear I carry the more images I return with.
  18. I've used my 1228 MK2 with a Mamiya RZ/ Hassey 501CM and

Pentax 645N and lenses up to 360mm with no problem, used

mirror lock up as often as possible. Get a good head like an Arca

-Swiss B-1/ Kirk BH-1 or BH-1 and use correct technique. I have

a tiny G1027 for travel (use it with 35mm) but I'd use it only in a

pinch for medium format...it's better than nothing but not as my

    main pod.

  19. I think you will find that the Canon primes from 35mm on are just

as good as the Contax primes so what about the Canon 200

f2.8L (similar price to the Zeiss MM) add the 1.4x for slightly

longer reach. In my field use of both Canon and Contax I have

found the newer designs of the Canon to be as sharp or sharper

than Contax, the Zeiss lenses do give a more contrasty look but

the line is now pretty old, especially the 180mm. Where Canon

falls short is their wide zooms but from 70mm on (L series) it's

another story . Of course some Contax -Krishna will chime in

and disagree but hey, I use my gear.
