  1. In the case of the Silver finish lenses, they are produced from an alloy of copper and zinc, probably what we in the US "F.M. Brass" wherein the FM stands for "free-machining". It is very stable, strong and takes plating finishes very well. This material and stainless steel (18-8 alloy) would both produce higher quality products than the black finish aluminum but the aluminum is cheaper to manufacture. Bill
  2. Hi: I'd like to add my thoughts on your 50mm and 35mm Black Paint lenses for your M-6 TTL LHSA camera: Without any doubt you need BOTH and when you add the 90mm Elmarit-M you will have an outfit that will keep you out of trouble for many years. If the black paint really sends you, there is a person in Japan who does excellent black paint work on Leica; the only thing is that the serial numbers will not fit the kit. I started with these three lenses and added the 21mm Asph., the 135mm Tele and the 280 w/Viso which creates a pretty complete kit for your picture taking----- BUT, the 35mm is used 90% of the time! Regards and good luck whatever you do. Bill Carson
  3. The first accesory that I buy is an ever-ready case; I would not be without one. Second would be a Visoflex II or III. Along with some accessories and a good tripod, the Viso opens up both close focus and tele photography. For close focus, any of the common lenses seem to be OK with a selection of extension tubes - both static and adjustable, For long focus, the 135mm and 280mm are exscellent optics and easy to use with the Viso. Have fun! Bill Carson
  4. Gee whiz! You guys all know better than you have expressed. Shutter-cocking, film-winding (in a single operatioon), interchangable lenses, rangefinder,, etc., Zeiss had all this and more plus with a shutter curtain that operated in the SHORT dinemsion of the format. Maybe most if not all of these features prior to the wizard of Wetzlar! And to many buyers and users thru the 30s and 40s, the Contax (Models I, II and III), Nettax, Super Nettle, etc. were more popular 35mm cameras than any that Leica offered. Leitz even had to go to Schneider for a super-hi-speed 50mm lens for their Leica cameras. Don't pretend that Leitz was fustest with the mostest! Bill
  5. Thanks to those of you who replied to my question. A couple of you referred to the condition of Warranty published by Leitz (Leica) that, "--the warranty is not transferable--). I would interpret this proviso that AFTER the Buyer has enabled the Warranty, the balance of time available of Warranty coverage cannot be transferred to another person. Actually, until the Warranty has been activated by Leica, there is nothing but the Buyers ENTITLEMENT to a Warranty when the application is submited. So, ??? Bill
  6. I have a new Leica M-6 Silver Classic that I purchased from a

    legitimate Leica dealer in the US about three or four years ago. All

    original warranty documents and special extension offers are intact;

    I never returned them as the camera has never been out of the box and

    is has never been used. I have a Buyer for this camera and he is very

    interested in having the protection of Leica's Warranty program: The

    question is whether Leica New Jersey will honor their warranty

    responsibilities when he sends the documents in for acceptance?

    Your comments will be appreciated; many thanks. Bill
