Hi Nick: The Nikon D-1 has a separate WB setting for 'flash.' Itis calibrated for light at 5400°K which narrows the sensitivity down and may be appropraie for very precise photography. Otherwise, I have a strong hunch that "A" would render a satisfactory image. Good Luck. Bill

Hi Shane: I'd go for all prime lenses. 20mm-f.2.8, 35mm-f.2.0 and 60mm-f.2.8 Macro. You'll never regret it and you'll have better pix to show. Regards, Bill

Hi Steve: Here's one approach that may be of general interest to those enmeshed in the problem of the non-availability of mercury batteries for Luna Pro Meters , etc. I have a package called "Repl Batt Kit F/Old Luna Pro S" and it contains two Everready Energizer #357 Cells (1.55 volts each) and a plastic and metal cup into which the two batteries fit. This kit which includes stickers telling which way the batteries should be loaded into the "cup" and is sold by Bogen Photo Corp. Their Gossen GOAKBHLP/4145 (REG), ADAPTER KIT/BATT Holder f/LUNA PRO/S. I think I paid less than $25.00 for the whole works? That seems to be an appropriate answer to the problem that comes up from time to time. Regards, Bill

Hi Andrew:<p>

Hi Kevin: As I recall, the processing was always included with the old Kodachrome Weston 10 speed and the later ASA 25 speed?? They included a little cloth bag to send it in to Rochester in the beginning. Bill

Hi Barry: If you find a need for a densitometer in your darkroom, I suggest that you check out the Laser Soft/SilverFast program. They offer a precision densitometer function for monitoring density values in scanning and printing. Good Luck. Bill

Hi Pat: I guess that you might know the guy involved in this true story:
A man appears before St. Peter at the Pearly Gates. "Have you ever done anything of particular merit?" St. Peter asks.
"Well, I can think of one thing," the man offers.
"Once on a trip to a Harley gettogether in the mountains of North Carolina, I came upon a gang of high-testoseterone bikers who were threatening a young woman. I directed them to leave her alone but they wouldn't listen. So I approached the largest and most heavily tattooed biker. I smacked him on the head, kicked his bike over, ripped out his nose ring and threw it on the ground and told him, "Leave her alone now or you'll answer to me." <p>
St. Peter was very impressed and asked, "When did this happen?"<p>
"Just a couple of minutes ago."
There must be a lesson in here somewhere?

Hi All: Not too long ago, one of the regulars posted a message with a
number of facts and information about TOFINO on Vancouver Ismand.
B.C. I saved a copy of his message but I can't locate it now. We plan
a little post-Labor Day getaway and would like to visit Tofino. I was
there on a fishing trip about ten years ago but I need some current
infor re hotels, etc. Sorry, I know this is Off The Suject of Leica
but I promise to take my Leica and make some poictures while there.
Thanks. Bill Carson

Dear Jim: I am sure that we all have our ideas about "---the best way---" and I'll try to summarize my thoughts with brevity: I have something approaching 20,000 B&W negatives exposed over the past 63±
years and probably about 5,000 various color slides. I had a very complete darkroom where I could process and print anything from Minox to 5 X 7. I'm getting old and I had been spending lesss time in the darkroom so I had thrown sideglances toward digital and done quite a bit of reading on the subject. One day, I decided, to hell with it! I'm giving up on the B&W darkroom and exposing additional B&W negatives --- I had a big sale and sold just about everything. I sold my Nikon SLR stuff, what MF stuff I had and kept the Leica gear. I went out and bot an Epson 1270 and a Nikon 995. I spent almost as much money on PhotoShop and books to train me on this vital ingrediant of digital "photography." And from day one, I liked it. My results have been a lot less than spectacular, but they have been improving steadily. I now have a Epson 2200 and a Nikon D-1 and I think my stuff is as good as it ever was! used to be a regular producer of 16 X 20 prints and now I find myself limited to 13 X 19 but the stuff is OK. I love it! I'm even beginning to think about images that go a little beyond photography and into, WOW, ART! Well
sort of? A nything, I acknowledge that my present equipment and techniques will probably suffice, with some steady improvement, the rest of my days.
I'm pleased to have done what I did and be where I am today.
Regards, Bill

That looks to me like it is a 35mm-f.1.4 Summilux-M and NOT the ASPH version?? I didn't think that they still produced these lenses? Bill

Many thanks Spencer but I did locate the Nikon information at the site that you furnished and it left me with the questions that I put forth on the Nikon Forum. I guess this means that it is new, perhaps not fully developed? and thus not available??? Sounds like a lens worth waiting (at least for awile) for? On the other hand, maybe the Nikon information is another way of suggesting that we wait awhile?
Thx again, Bill

I have seen some reference to a Nikon Nikkor DX IF-ED 17~55-f.2.8 G
IF-ED being available for use with the Nikon D series digital
cameras. Does anyone know anything about it? Price? Availability? B&H
doesn't seem to have it listed or know about it?? Thanks for any
scoop that you may have. Regards, Bill

I am interessted in comments from owner-users of Nikon D-1 digital
cameras (Perhaps this could be broadened to include D-1H users as
well?).
Specifically with respect to limitations that may be experienced due
to the [seemingly] low Megapixel Size provided in this camera?
I make 11 X 14s from time to time and 8½ X 11s very frequently; and
I'm very interested in producing critically sharp prints. The camera
seems large and heavy - I owned a Nikon F-5 but the size did not
bother me at the time.
I'd be very interested in your general comments regarding your
experiences with and use of this camera. Many thanks. Bill Carson
