  1. I'm considering purchasing my first camcorder. IS is wonderful in the still photo world, but I've wondered about its usefulness in video. When you pan & zoom, wouldn't you be fighting the IS? If you're not panning and zooming, what's the point of shooting video?
  2. Anthony,

First of all, you need to get out of the green mode, or any other PIC mode. Shoot in either Av (aperture priority) or Tv (shutter priority) mode. I suggest Tv and set to 1/250 or 1/500 for your lens.

Next, there are a couple of things you should do: First, turn on the flash. Second, use partial metering. To use partial metering, center the subject in the focus area then push the unmarked round button on the right rear side. A '*' will light up in the view finder to show that you have metered. Then, recompose and shoot.

  3. I love street photography. I think it's extremely challenging, and often frustrating because it's a reactive process. You cannot create the situation. You just have to wait for it to occur, and hopefully be ready to capture it for posterity. Seeing work from people like Cartier-Bresson sometimes inspires me and sometimes makes me more frustrated. It's difficulty is a barrier to many people.<div>004LE6-10890784.jpg.d2482c5256bd6b62b614f2e51830bc79.jpg</div>
  4. I agree that a 20mm lens can offer a great perspective. But be careful when composing your subject near the edges of the frame because things can distort unflatteringly. I shoot a lot of candids around this focal length and I've tossed more than a few because of the dreaded "big nose" effect.
