  1. I completely agree. I'm a hobbyist photographer. I have a Hasselblad 500 c/m and I love it. Printed black and white images are so nice with this camera. The tonality in skin and the detail in general -- Stunning camera for nice prints.
  2. The highest end (most expensive) H25 Phase One digital back has a 12 f-stop range which means yes it is better than most if not all film. Sorry, for some reason 14 stuck in my brain but when I checked the product specs it was 12. You can check out this link and click on "Download brochure and product spec's" to see the details - I find it quite amazing. I'm a regular guy who likes my Hassy and my film - but this blew me away and its nice to know that one day I can use my Hassy and my lenses and simply buy a back to do High end digital.
  3. This may be more of a comment than a question, but I just wanted to

mention that I attended a one day seminar/workshop on the Phase One

Digital Back --- this is really high end digital and the images

impressed me to no end - the shadow detail was incredible ... the

back is able to do 14 f-stops which means you can photograph someone

under a tree in shade, have bright sunlight above the tree and

everything looks good ... very impressed with the dynamic range of

the back. Is anyone using one of these expensive backs?

  4. Hello: I'm looking to purchase a good used Carl Zeiss 150mm portrait

lens --- the f/4 Sonnar. My questions are this - does the number on

the lens mean anything (ie. does it specify its date ex. Nr

6356705)? I notice the newer lens' are CFI T* - what does the I

stand for? What flavours does this lens come in ie. C, CT*, CF T*,

CFI T* ??? Thanks for any advice on buying tips for this specific

    lens.

  5. I have some Carl Zeiss and some Nikkor lenses and I was wondering

about fungus growth in them over a period of time. I keep my lenses

in a moderate environment (not a moist environment) - is there

anything else to do to prevent fungus growth (such as use them

    often?) over time? Thanks.

  6. I'm interested in perhaps buying an 8mm extension tube for my Hassy

500c/m with 80mm Planar lens. I take mainly portraiture. Can

someone send me or direct me to images taken with this combination or

similar combination so I get a feel for what this extension tube will

do for me. I want to forgo spending 1K on a 150mm lens and thought I

could get a little closer this way. Will I be physically too close

to my subject with the 8mm tube? Thanks for any help on this.

  7. Hello: I'd be interested in knowing the experiences of anyone doing

large format portraiture (specifically 8x10 portraits). I've been

reading about Hurrell and Hollywood glamour of the 1930's and see

that he used an 8x10 view camera with a Verito lens. Can someone

tell me the cost of such a camera system and if lighting is difficult

because I assume these aren't fast lenses. Also, is it enjoyable

using such a large format? And I assume contact prints are made in

the printing process? Thanks for any input or advice on this.

    Brian.

  8. I was wondering if anyone can recommend or not recommend this

camera. I'm looking for something relatively cheap primarily for

email/internet viewing of pictures (not for printing them out) and

for some manual functions as well as shutter and aperture priority.

I'm also looking for something with a good lens, not necessarily high

pixel number (resolution) since I will not be printing. I'm

impressed with the pictures I've seen with this camera - the Carl

Zeiss lens does seem very good to me. However, these cameras date

back to 2001 so its not so easy to find them especially in Canada.

Any pro's or con's to this camera from users - thanks very much!

    Brian.
