    It's a "Date Nail", date nail "58"= 1958 the date (year) the railroad tie was installed, most date nails were made of copper but some from steel.

    Nice photo of a "Rotoary snow plow", It is usually used in the mountains or where there is deep or heavy snow fall. The plow is pushed ahead of the Engine, but has it own power to turn the "Rotoary".

    Great shot, I like the reflection on the floor it gives it some depth. I did a shot in the same area last year and was hopeing to re-shoot it this fall, sorry to hear that the lettering is no longer there. You have a great portfoilo, keep up the good work.
