I would like to have the film processed and then print it in my home darkroom using BW paper when I am go back to US in August. I can get Fuji Frontier prints here as proofs.
I have been able to scrounge some expired BW Fotre film from local shops here and will have to wait to process it when I get back. I have not been able to find someone who would process it here in Islamabad Pakistan.

I do agree that Zeiss still camera lens division is pretty small. They have huge optical glass and industrial optics divisions. My point was that if a company has been around for over a hundered years and is financially healthy is indicative of haveing a leadership that has a good grasp of its business area and in general will make prudent decisions. Just look at Leica. They are struggling to survive.
Could it be that because they could not design the Hasselblad H system lenses they focused their energies and resources to design the new ZF (and ZM) series lenses;-). As a Nikon user, who is saving for a new 85mm f1.4 AIS I am pretty happy.

From Zeiss 2004-2005 Results press release
"Profits almost doubled
Profits increased even stronger than revenues. The Carl Zeiss Group recorded an EBIT of
EUR 199 million, equating to 72 percent over the previous year (EUR 116 million). Pre-tax earnings increased from EUR 129 million the previous year to EUR 226 million. Net annual income totaled EUR 151 million - a new record almost doubling the previous year (EUR 77 million)."
Here is the link:
http://www.zeiss.com/C1256A770030BCE0/WebViewAllE/DB6FD4EE17970D6FC12571140053F4C4
or you can do a Google search on "Zeiss profits".
So, apperently Zeiss people are making good business decisions.
Someone made a statement that bemoaning the fact that Zeiss is not making Hasselblad lenses smacks of some sort of racisim. I do not agree with that. Designers from different countries have different focus and it shows in the their products. You may or may not be attuned to those differences but they are there. Personally I like the way German cars are designed mucompared to Japanese (and American)cars. I just sold my second VW Golf and will buy a third one soon. If VW stops selling cars in United States, I will bemoan that too. Will that make me a racist?
I am not good enough photographer to really appriciate the difference between optics from different countries. However, I can say that the Rolleiflex T TLR I just bought is a joy to use mechanically.

I have used a 6x8 back with and RB Pro S. With a 127mm and 150mm lens I did not notice any issue with sharpness, etc.
However, the Pro S has two models. In order to fill the frame of the 6x8 back you need to use the model that has the 6x8 revolving adapter.
You can use the 6x8 back on all RB models but you may no be able to expose all the frame. I know for sure that the original RB model has that issue.
I hope this help.

I would try changing the battries. I have an N80 which sits for months before I use it. Never any problems.

Scott,
I tried doing the same as you but found out that in the end that I could have gotten every thing I needed at very reasonable price from Britek (which I did). They have a warehouse in Los Angeles. I live close by. Their AS series is pretty cheap. Although quality is no way near the pro brands.

Can someone please tell me about Mamiya "6x7, 6x8 revolving back
adapter" on a Pro SD Camera.
I am thinking of buying a Mamiya Pro SD and already have the Mamiya
6x8 motorized back. Do I need a camera with this type of adapter or
I can use one with the regular also.
Any help will be appriciated.

I bought a similar lens for $299 from Midwest Camera Exchange in the US. The lens was Excellent+ shape.
later I bought some more Horseman Lenses from KEH for around the same price.
I dropped it on my garage floor the first time I mounted it on the camera so I could not tell you what is the quality.

C just means that it is multicoated. All my N lenses for 645 lenses also have a green C.

Jon,
I am familiar with the Horseman lines of folder cameras as I own one. Every Horseman lens made for these comes with a cam that needs to be snapped into the focus bed before the lens is installed. After that the rangefinder works fine. Without the ca you will have to use the ground glass.
Most all Horseman folder cameras can use roll film backs.

Wow. That is walking distance from my home, I live in edge of Hawthorne which is the next town. In fact, when I moved here, I used to work in 840 Apollo St.
BTW El Segundo location is much "upscale" than Torrance. Either they are splurging the profits they are making by selling truckloads of D70's or positioning themselves like a "upscale boutique manufacturer", like Lieca:-)

Sanjay,
Download the Super manual or Pro (not TL) manual. The 645e is very similar in operation to these cameras. It has a SV finder prmenantly atached, and the back do not come off. You can use multiple inserts though (like 1000s). I believe, there is no provision of changing focusing screens.
I have a Mamiya 645 Pro and did some research in getting 645e. Study the specs of both cameras for any other differences.
The only reason I bought the 645 pro is because it allows removable backs. I load a 100ASA film in one of them and 3200ASA in other. 654 Super is also very similar in operation to 645 Pro.

You should be fine. I never send any warranty cards and my D70 has been in repairs twice. You need a recipt with sale date.

I would just do it myself with a Dremel tool with a cutter and a needle file for smoothing rough edges. I bet a machinest will charge more than a price of a Dermel tool and safety googles, and you get to keep them:-)

Angus,
I have a D70 with similar problem. I have tested it using the method provided here:
http://md.co.za/d70/chart.html
I would suggests that you do this test. In my personal experience the kit lens has problems but other seem to work fine.
My D70 has been to Nikon twice under warranty but the problem persists, so I have learned to live with it.

david,
become a member of an online developer
www.ezprints.com
www.dotphoto.com
Both will let you upload a picture and let you preview. I believe basic membership is free.
There are other services that I am sure will allow you to preview. Ezprints will even allow you to pick up the section of the picture you would like to be printed. BTW you will also lose some picture area from top and bottom sides also.

Raj,
You did not mentioned where you are located. I would assume in the US ans N80 is only available here. I would recommend that you start with and N80 and a 50mm AF lens. Try www.keh.com for good deals in used equipment.
If you are willing to buy used equipment $500 is a pretty decent budget for someone statring in photography as a hobby.

PS: don't ever get NAS ;-)

Thanks everyone. I will take it to Nikon Torrance facility for them to take a look.

Hi,
I have a Nikon 500mm mirror lens. I believe it is the latest model.
It has a rotating tripod collar but I cannot lock it. However, there
is a knob on the collar that does not turn or move up or down?
Is this knob supposed to turn and lock the tripod collar. i am
attaching a picture of the lens for reference.
Thanks for your replies.

oops, I forgot you were looking for a macro. I actually used is a few times with a closeup lens attached so I got confused.
Question on the N80
in Nikon
Posted
Rob,
N80 will allow you to mount the old AI/AIS lens but you can only use it on manual mode. The exception is that TTL flash is still useable. There is a green focus assist light in the view finder that is very useful.
I would suggest you should look at an older body. If you are in US you may want to look at www.keh.com.
