I use an N80 (F80 in rest of the world!) and a Sigma zoom. When I need good sharp portraits, I go to a local camera store an rent a 85mm f1.4. The results are way way better with the prime lens.

I would go ahead and buy a 85mm telephoto. the f/1.8 version is pretty compact.

On my manual focus FA I always use a 85mm f2.0 for people photography and the resulting slides are really nice. This lens hardly larger than 50mm f/1.4. Too bad I cannot use these on my N-80.

I believe that nikon will not have a 24-85DX len because the recently introduced 24-85G lens can do double duty on film and digital (both full and APS frame sized) SLR's.

I will be buying a 24-85mm G lens for my N80 tomorrow and plan to use that if I upgrade to a D100.

I want to buy a D100 body to relpace the N80 currently use to shoot

events and portraits. I do not want to work with the RAW files, just

JPEGS in high resolutions. I have heard that D100 JPEG images

are "SOFT" and under exposed. Has any body has any experience with

this. I would like to upload the JPEGS to photo services and get

prints. Otherwise I do want to use the computer for editing. Any

comments will be appriciated.
