I saw a D3 at an elementary school holiday fair a few weeks back. The owner was nice father
of a nice 3rd grader. He let me take a snapshot of him and his daughter (50mm 1.4). With
such a great camera I'm sure it was that day's finest snapshot :)
He had taken some nice pictures of icebergs, didn't catch his name but he didn't seem like a
corporate raider.
I'l remain very happy with the D200 and will be for many years yet I hope.

They were in stock last week at BH. I bought one on Wednesday and received it yesterday
(Monday). They are now out of stock again.
The lens is either hard to make, extrememely popular or a combination thereof.
I played with the VR in some dim light last night and was appropriately wowed.

Related question: for the current 50mm Summicron: how good is the cap that fits the built-
in hood?
I lost the regular lens cap and want to replace it ; I am not that thrilled with the regular lens
cap as it was alway falling off...there were several near misses before it finally got lost for
real.

Pretty easy to get black and white film in Shanghai. Check out the little shop in the alley off
Urumqi/Wulumuqi Lu and Jiangsu Lu near a place called Party Time or something like that.
There's a Kodak placard that you can see from the streetside.
They develop, too and do a decent job.
-
And, it must be said: the person in front of the lens makes a difference, too.
-
If you want to use small apertures why not use the 18-55.

I just got a D200 a couple days ago: Lovely thing. It has everything I want excepting the
normal digi-issues of noise and dynamic range. I haven't been able to use it much (work too
much) but am looking forward to some heavy use over the Christmas Holiday.
B&H has them at an attractive price, too.
-
I just went throug this process!
I decided to get a D200 and a Nikon 17-55 just today after much deliberation.
Most likely a Tokina 12-24 will be the next purchase and these two will be the lenses I use
the most. I am sorely tempted by the 18-200 Nikkor as an all purpose lens but it will
drive me crazy to have three lenses to choose from.
Also got a SB 600 flash.
I current;y use a Nikon F and a Leica M6...both of which are overkill for my purposes so
what the hell, may as well get a D200 to add to the overkill.

I think Rose didn't have his best day when interviewed HCB. HCB was obviously
uncomfortable and Rose never took any steps to make it a smoother interview.
Still, it's always a pleasure to see this interview, thaks for posting the link.

Thanks, Lilly and Joseph.

Related question:
Does the D200 display the selected aperture on an AIS lens in the viewfinder? Or only on
AIS/P lenses?
-
I attended, it was nice. Beautiful work, too much money.
-
I think your are referring to the number of LED's in the display.
The M6 has two, they look somehing like this when properly exposed (I think( "><").
THe TTL has thee LED's, it as an o in the middle, it shows ? when properly exposed nad >o
when you're a shade under-exposed and o< when you're a shade over-exposed; all of this of
course being based on what the meter "thinks" is proper.
The "o" is solid in real life.

You don't really need to speak French to understand this, but since I do I'll give an
abridged translation:
- Camera has a vertical shutter with a stripe, no dot.
- There's no film wind lever
- There's a screen and controls on the back
- Here's what it sounds like
Blah blah blah.
Looks nice, shutter sound is not atrocious but certainly doesn't have the pleasing thunk of
the M6 (I have M6 TTL).
My lens "collection" consists of a 50 Summicron bought new a few years ago and a 35 f3.5
and 90 f4 that I got from Paul N on this forum (nice lenses, by the way, I use the 35
regularly, rarely touch the 90).
Best bang for my digital dollar is still the new rebel XTi, but I'm not buying anything but
film and D76 these days, I can shoot and develop a lot of pictures before I cross the
$1.2-1.5k a new SLR outfit would set me back.

Driving in the Autobahn in a relatively recent car is no big deal.
This summer we had a family vacation in Austria and Southern Germany (Kochel-am-See,
about 60 km or so south of Munich) and drove on the Autobahn regularly.
The rules of the European road are pretty common from country to country. The pertinent
difference is that in the German hinterlands you can drive really fast if you want and it is
kind of thrilling. (Don't worry, the thrill will subside when you next fill the tank.)
The joy of visiting a country with such exceedingly beautiful countryside (I've only been to
Bavaria) is in walking, riding or driving on the B and C roads where you're more connected
with the countryside and have the chance pass through or spend a day in lots of charming
little towns. Blitzing from place to place at 160+ kph doesn't provide much opportunity to
take in the beauty of the country.
As for photography: I have little or no interest in visiting major cities in any country, they
are pretty much homogenized where villages are still varied. On the other hand big cities
often have wonderful museums and architecture.
Austria is too pretty for words so if you're in Southern Germany and can swing a trip to
Innsbruck (or anywhere else) you should. As an added benefit the food there was by and
large more flavorful and the coffee, excellent.

Yes, no different than using a timer.

I've never been refused a manual inspection at an airport and have never attempted one in
a museum.
Took a family vacation to Europe this summer, passed through several airports without
issue. I go to Asia on business 5-6 times per year and have never had a manual
inspection refused on these trips, either.
I always smile and ask for film inspections with full politeness and if possible in the local
lingo, no matter how much of a rush I am in.
That said, the temptation to get digital camera is huge: this way I can stop being so
darned polite all the time :)

Hmmm. Nice review. Makes me want to move to Holland.

She's got a look. I wouldn't call her pretty but she's kind of hot anyway.
Very easy to jusdge people from my seat of my couch in suburbia...

#1 looks like a styrofoam peanut
#2 looks like a section of cardboard

Sunniest spot in all of England....
-
Oooo ouch.
Nobody's gonna get hot and bothered arguing about the work of a third party.
I think the 21st century culture encourages us to spout out sound bite statements in a way
that's frequently unfair, especially when it's in reference to project that somebody (or bodies)
put a lot of time and effort into.

The internet's great: everybody with a mouse can render judgement in two shakes of a hog's
tail.
This is very sensitive documentary photography.
I wonder if people would say "Boring" if the subject matter were shot in, say, Tibet.

Keeble and Shuchat in Palo Alto have a demo, it has a battery, a lens and a falsh card.
I laid my grubby hands on it on Monday and was suitably impressed. Of course, they did not
have units for sale in stock; nor did they have a demo wunder-zoom.
