A golden rule in Underwater Photography is NOT to shoot straight down.
Breaking that rule sometimes gives very nice results, like hovering
above a coral head

The wreck of the Salem Express. This ferry loaded with pilgrims hit a
reef near Safaga on Dec. 16th 1991. More than 500 people died when the
ship went down. It's a very sobering dive.

A fine example of rebirth. The end of a sailing boat creates a nice
place to live for dozens of coral species

This lionfish was warning me I was too close. Spreading its fins it
almost looks like a flower

Close-up of a lionfish. These predators are not afraid at all of divers

Thanks!
The gradient is much smoother indeed on the full-size original. Resizing and lowering the jpeg quality seems to make it more harsh.
I was doubting a lot between the sigma 15mm and the nikon 16mm fisheye lenses. The sigma won, because it focuses closer than the nikon.
For underwater the fisheyes are great, you can get very close and still have everything in the shot. For topside I think a fisheye is much harder to work with since the distortion becomes much more noticeable.

Is it a single shot? Or did you combine some work?Looks very hard to get all the elements exactly right in the same time

A thresher shark during an early morning dive at Big Brother island in
the red sea. These are pretty shy creatures for which you have to dive
deep (50 meters in this photo).
So an amazing but rare encounter with a beautiful animal

Nope, not an aquarium. It was out in the wild, near the island of Pserimos in Greece.
