1. I usually take all my lens with me in a trip. This year, I got, like

the last 5 years, a 2 weeks break in Cape Hatteras, and i said to

my self, i will not take my 500 f4, because i have the 100-400

with me... Big mistake, this year, the place was full of new birds

like never and i just got small blurry pixelized pictures of them.

Big lesson learned, take all the lens.

IQ, Bokeh, low light performce of the 50mm 1.4 aren't included in

    your other lens

Some years ago I have a 5 days (sunday night to saturday

mornign) formation in Chicago, i only take the 24-105 with me,

thinking versatility and high iso will do the job for the touristic

night. I so regret my 50 1.4 that i left home..

My advice take a bigger bag. Have a jacket with bigger pockets.

  2. Just because, I have a lot of exotic lenses, including md, m42,

russian, cool war, Pentax K, etc that I use on my 5dmkii ;-) and

it's cool, when you balence the White, with a 1950 lens that have

b&w red, yellow or orange contrast filter.... of course, I find it

funny because, I have some experience soothing with these fleet

on b&w film some little years ago

  3.
Here we are not talking about a simple p&s, it's a real camera with interchangeable lens, you can DO REAL WORK with it.

This camera blow my head. I wish to be able to use my eos lens on this kind of camera. I can travel without my laptop, editing and transfer picture without any other equipment. Imagine a Android Lightroom app where I can batch process my picture s writing them on a external hd etc. This is a new game for business photographers,

You can give your contact sheet to your customer on the set with watermark on a usb, or you get a small wifi printer to sell your photos on the spot.
For me it a new way to z think about photography business, even for journalists.

What are you guys thinking about it.

  5.
Sorry I shoot with 5dMKII and have 5D has a backup, and have mostly every L lens.
IRTFA, and FTFA : " Canon expects a 26.6 percent increase in operating profit this year as it cuts costs and increases revenue — but the projection Wednesday still fell short of analysts’ expectations." Emphasi it's from me.
We See What We Want.
In the camera market, Canon lost it this 2 last years. period.
If you RTFA, you will see that Canon predict his good performence from : " Canon expects a 26.6 percent increase in operating profit this year as it cuts costs"
You don't innovate when you cut development and research.
When everyone is going more pixel, more, vintage look, more af, more lens, more "everyone need a camera better than a phone"... what canon give, small plastic camera without innovation.
Where is the 200-400 f4, the Full Frame with 36 or 42 mp
where is the contender of the Fuji x-pro-1 and the Sony NEX-7. Canon had 2 years to take the train, and they don't get it.
They made a cheap M camera without nothing out-of-the-crowd, just a copy with less feature than any other camera maker doesn't.

  6.
Of course, they don't deliver. 5dMiii is a fail when compared to d800 (22mp vs 36).
Canon N, it's also a fail when compared to Sony or Fuji.
New new feature in the S line, compared to Samsung, Polaroid and Nikon new android camera
no new faster and better lens, compared to Sony and Nikon.
Canon sleep during the last 2 years, they have to wake up, or they will be the next Kodak.

  7.
You can use special focusing screen with 5dII, not with 5dIII, don't know for 6D.
But, I do a lot of manual focus and having a focusing screen with split focusing and grid line is a real nice, and you can use Magic Lantern (http://www.magiclantern.fm/) with 5dII, you don't for now with 5dIII and I suppose it'll take some time to use it with 6d.
So, for me, I don't see anything worth 2 cents more on the 5dIII over 5dII.

  8.

The short answer is the 85mm f/1.2L ("L" means "Luxury", or so it is said, in Canon's lens lineup)

L means "LUX" not "Luxury" Lux is the latin word for Light, Lumière, luz, licht, luce and almost every other occidental name for light came from LUX, on the other hand, luxury, came from the latin word than means bling-bling ;-) and derive from LUX also.

BTW, I got the 85mm f1.2 MKII, but not the f.18, so I can't tell the difference, but the 1.2 it's one of the kind, you can't get this IQ, Bokeh, DR, Overall everything with anything else.

  9.
@Robin Smith

Why do you feel this? I hate to ask, but is your photography so great that it can really benefit from this mode of thinking?

My point of view, is that on "electronic" everything have to double every 18 mount and be half priced.
So, this year, 4 years after the 5dII, Canon should come with a (21*1,5)=32MP (minimum FF sensor) with (8*1.5)=12 Stop DR instead, we got a same MP sensor with the same DR.
The 5d to 5dii do this 12mp to 21mp is about 1.75 multiple

  10.
Today Canon is the Maker of 3 Full Frame Sensors with the less MegaPixel in all the industry.
The evidence it that Canon have lost the Mega Pixel War.
I have a 5d an 5dii and I wish to upgrade my camera to a better DR, IQ and MP every 2-3 years....
I have nothing to upgrade this year. So, since I already have my budget set and all the Canon Lens I want.... I looking for a small fast mirrorless Camera.!?
my 2 5d are perfect for my studio, macro and landscape, I'm looking for a fast/small holiday/vacation camera without compromise on the IQ. I already have G9 & Pentax WG-1 but they aren't answering my needs for IQ and fast focus/lens.
Was thinking of the Fujifilm or even the Leica, but here I will paid for the name more than for the quality, but eeh, nothing now like to beat the Leica in term of IQ DR and MP.
And before someone say : "It's not related to EOS body!"
Look body, I use EOS body and want to talk to somebody that used to use the same kind of body.

  11.
@Michael Liczbanski "(...)Seriously,I can't see a single missing feature on the 6D for a camera in this price range (...)"

Look, I have 5d & 5dII and also every XXd that come before the 5d. For my this camera and the 5dmkIII have nothing more then the 5dmkII can offer.
I do studio, Portrait, Landscape, birds and Macro with my 5dMKII, I try the "new and Improved" MKIII with my 500f4, 85f1.2II, and others... don't see anything improved... even i find bad evolution like :can't change the focusing screen : doing Portrait with big printout is essentiel, samething for macro.

The 5dmkII is a Medium Format Remplacement, not the MKIII, none of the new 1d(C, X) are a MF remplacementand surely not the 6d.
What the general feeling about this camera and other "New and Improved" Camera from Canon, is that Canon lost the touch. Lost the pro market.
Maybe it's a ping-pong game between Nikon & Canon. Ok, this year, I shoot new big gun, next year it's your turn, so people can switch system and buy new lenses.

  12.
A lot of people always say that : a 50mm is a 50mm what ever the camera format you got...
Sorry, but not for me.
You can said that someone can take a 50mm from a medium or large format and put it on a dslr and take the same picture that the one using the 50mm from the dslr cie.
But, than again, when you take a single 50mm lens and put it on different format you can't get the same picture.
Think about it, if your enough lucky to have a 50mm f3.5 that can work on a 6x7 (cm) format sensor.
You will get a wide lens with a shallow DOF.
You get the same lens, on a 35mm sensor, you got a normal lens with some shallownest DOF
You get the same lens on a small camera with a P&S style sensor, you got a real telephoto lens without any DOF.. something like 600mm with f8 on a 35mm but with the f3.5 opening.

So, when you change format, with a single lens, the more you shrink the sensor, the more telephoto you get, the less DOF you get and more light for the multiplication ration you got.
Sorry, but a 50mm is a 50mm only in number when you change the platform.

  13.
Use iso-100 and multiple (3) exposures and merge them in you favorite image manipulator program... you will have better DR and a quasi iso-33 exposure.

  14.
Thank you both.
Christoph, this is exactly the pdf I use :-(
Jim, I try and remove the insert and I retry it a lot of time... nothing. Thank you for your offer, I will send you an email next week if I don't have solution
I'm going on a shooting next week starting tomorrow, I think the mamiya will not come.
