It's a great shot. There was a photo of Giraffes by Ron D`Raine called Makulu that you might be interested in. I think was taken at the Perth zoo (or was at least very popular there when I used to visit Perth on business around 1996).

Great shot Bob. I've seen a lot of close ups of table shots before a wedding or event to capture settings or flowers but I have not seen a good shot that did what you did. It definitely captures that this will be a big event yet the photo is more artistic than documentary. A fish-eye with no composition could document the scope of the event but that is unlikely to be nearly as interesting as your composition.

In regards to the title...the napkin immediately to the right of the vase in the foreground looks like a squirrel facing me and begging with its tail in the air to the right of it. ...I should kick the drugs :) ...

Thanks Fred. The most negative thing I have to say about this photo is that you have other shots which I like more. You do some great work. Thanks again.

The tip of the beek blends a bit too well with the shawdow just to the left of it but I think the photo is great. I don't have a suggestion to improve that though because I like the lighting as is.

It was a very good choice of a shooting location as well.

  1. I like the shawdow lines caused by the dog's ears. Not too fond of the leaves on the right but that's a minor concern and I thought the rest of the picture was stellar.

I'm glad to hear that manual photography still exists but don't you think this photo would have been much better using predictive AF? The 10FPS on my camera would also do wonders here :)

That's a great shot. The feet don't bug me at all but I tend to like things that are slightly croped. They feel less synthetic to me. I know I'm alone there so no need to kill me on these boards.

In regards to the 100% vs 92% chat: I bought a Canon 1V over a EOS 3 in part because I wanted the 100% view. While I am extremely happy with the 1V and would not chose to exchange it, the 100% view is a tiny problematic. I should almost entirely slides and almost always mounted. The mounted slides are not 100% after the mounting. They are close but not exact. When I shot with an FM2 (92%?) I did not have the problem of accidently cropping off important edge elements because the slide always had more than what I saw in the viewfinder.

In any event Charo, congrats on a well deserved photo of the Week.

This is a really interesting shot. The title is great. The photo feels natural. I especially like seeing photos of everyday locations that are interesting. You could have titled this "The Photo that many would have missed" and it would have been just as accurate. Thanks.

This might be a lame comment (as most of mine are) but the subject seems like she would be a natural for a more playful or less organized photo. Don't get me wrong, I really like the shot in all aspects with the exception that whether by accident or plan the shot looks too organized for what I imagine is a free spirit.

Still my highest praise for a very pretty photo.

  2. This is a beautiful shot. It seems that a lot of your shots are done with the 2XTC and the 600mm. Is this a typo? I'm surprised they look this nice with the 2XTC on them.

    Thanks again for posting.

    Thanks Gianpaolo,

I actually don't like pugs much but I like this one and was pleasantly surprised by how well the photo came out despite being too dark. With better controlled lighting I think I can take a decent shot of this dog yet. Will let you know if that happens.

For anyone who has not seen Gianpaolo's work, he has some really great photos. Please click through to his work if you get a chance.

  3. The photo above was taken in China Town. I'm curious what people

think I should have done in terms of composition.

Unfortunately, from a color and contrast point of view I haven't

quite gotten my slide scanner tweaked quite right to do NPZ 800 yet

so you may want to hold off on those sort of issues for now.

For a comparison, Mehrdad Sadat took a photo of the same player at

about the same time. His photo is on his Photo.net page as well.

    Thanks,
