  1. I love the emotion of the photo - and it's not your traditional "sitting on the tracks" posed shot. I would have liked the camera a little higher, the track is a bit harsh in the lower right corner, but I do think the square crop is better than vertical, I think if you can make it work horizontal that would be even better!

Really cute pose and great expression capture. The fake blurring in post-processing is really distracting though, it is too harsh around the boy's wrist and shirt in the front, and too flat - the background is all blurred the same, though certainly some of it is closer and should be less blurred. The hair is a little too dark and could be brought up to show more detail. It's a great capture, really cute picture and worth trying the post-processing again if you want to, to see if it can be made even better!

A beautiful capture. I agree that more horse rather than less would add to the story. The tones are perfect for the image - although if you can bring up her eyes at all so that there is more detail (and maybe a little catchlight?) I think it would greatly improve the overall "stay and linger and look" power of the image... beautiful all the same.
  2. I love the composition, the story, and the tones. Just a happy picture - perfect title, and it makes you wonder what the subject of the happiness is (being a parent, I assume with all ego exposed that that's his mama right there!) - the one thing that distracts me is how blurred the side of his head is, that's not consistant with DOF and I wonder what happened there.

Thanks Stephen - this is helpful. It's the full frame so I can't fix it now (other than to try a panoramic type crop, which I will....), but something to think about for next time. Thanks for taking the time to critique!

Interesting collage work. For the photos I really like the main one a lot and would like to see it without the others (which I am going to go see if it is in your gallery...) and I think that the bottom left one is my favorite. Great colors and light, on all, but especially these two.

I don't frequently shoot landscapes, this one pretty much composed

itself. Interested in hearing about what I could do differently/better next

    time. Thank you!

Like a painting. Great choice of post-processing technique for this photo, w hich I'm sure was a great photo to begin with, and in this case this style enhances the story. Nice work.

Composition is fantastic, and this captures a memory for you, a silly one, which is nice. But without the explanation - it would be a great photo if what was in the hands was something a little more interesting (I think you already knew that, though ;) )

    YEAH!!!!

This one is fantastic Alex! It is still a little dark/lacking contrast and color pop, but the composition and the moment caught are fantastic. You can work out the post-processing issues for sure. I'd like that vase to be a lot yellower so that it really separates from her head more (and next time get her to sit another few feet forward from it, and move the plastic pots and dead plants out of the frame).

Alex, this is a cute capture and nicely composed, but a few things: First you are right, you do need to bring up the exposure and the contrast - I think if you did that BEFORE posting it you'd actually get more response because it is hard to really evaluate the picture when it isn't exposed correctly - it's just hard to see. I don't think you need to have all the bubbles in focus, the real problem here is the big bubble that eclipses her eyes, but doesn't quite encompass them. I think it would be a great picture if that one bubble were gone - which would have meant waiting another second or two before snapping. I like the nice tight cropping and I think the focus on the girl rather than the bubbles is great. I'd love to see more from the same series, once they're color and exposure corrected!

What a cool ballet costume and you caught the perfect pose. Did you have to do a lot of burning to get it to look like this? It looks great and the crop is just right too.

Very clever. Takes a minute to figure out what you are looking at.

Crop in just a bit closer to get that tree top out of the top of the frame and bump up the colors a notch (but maybe let Mr. Taxi stay the same), and I think you've got a really interesting image.

Very surreal, in addition to cute. I like it! If you could bring up her (?) eye a bit more I think it would be even better. Love the colors!
