Hi,
Can somebody out there explain me, why the prices of Leica are so
different from one country to onother?
P.e.: 3000 Euro for a Leica M7 in Europe, 2500 in the States and less
than 2000 in Hong Kong!
I think in HK they sell original stuff, not used and not...
Thanks

What about using a Contax lens hood for the 28 and the 35 Leica M
lenses? The Contax is a metal one and cheaper the the Leica.
Your suggestion, please.

I did with 1/8 (50/2) without problem.

When you visit a foreign country do you need, especialy in warm regions, a friend and the knwoledge of the language. In Somalia the knwoledge of the italian language was better than the english, and if we have had a journalist killed by the local warriors it was only for political reasons, not because she was a woman or italian. Second: you need to know the territory and the customs... this is very usuful in order to survive! You can't behave as if you were in NY or in London, but hardly to be believed this is something very difficult to accept by a photographer or a western journalist.

Now I have the official price list from Leica:
M system: 21 asph: 2630 Euro; 351,4: 2610; 35/2: 1740; 50/1: 3020; 50/1,4: 2090; 50/2,8: 720; 90/2,8: 1390; 75/1,4: 2810; 90/2: 2170; viewfinder for 24 and 28: 220.
R system: 90/2: 2500; 100/2,8: 2900; 280/4: 4760; 21-35: 2430;
Ok?

NO, the price of the M7 is not increased, but other lenses are but not all. The 50/2,8 was 800 Euro, now is 720. The increse is of about 60/70Euro for the 21, 90, 28, 35/1,4 and 35/2, 50/1 and probably for the 50/1,4 but not for the 50/2. Also the 75/1,4 has been increased.

Why are you asking if you have style? Why are you so uncertain and unsecure? You do not have to base your photographic style on our appreciation or critics, but only on your own idea and feeling of photography. You know what you have to do, pursue your spirt and you will find what you are looking for.

No problem at all.

The market will answer, and the market will answer digital for the company, the journalist photoreporter and the rich. The poor families, and the largesst part of the world that cannot access to the computer world will buy and evelop film. So, we Leicaphiles, will have always a film to buy. More than 50 years ago the ballpoint pen was to annichilate the fountain pen, but today the fountain pen is still surviving and quite well...
It is not the practise that may kill the style.

Yes it is.

If you really love your country you ought to have much more respect for your own flag and wouldn't use it as a gown or a shirt or a cap. In my opinion, this misuse of the american flag made by some americans, shows only their childish attitude towards a land they do not feel as their own but have to convince them their are in love with it. Love and respect go always together. A flag is for the men not for a dog or a motorcar. Probably this not respect for their own flag may explain the not respect that the american imperialism has for other people. A flag is not a rag.

Yes they are included, at least here in Italy. No grey market, but official Leica dealer for 230 Euro.

What about the Contax flash cord?

Sorry Al, this is not my intention, really, but in my humble opinion even if you may have a very good baggage of Leica theory, you are not entered into the Leica Philosophy yet. I beg your pardon, but a lot of time, being a philosophy teacher, I distinguish between «wissen» and «verstehen», to know and to understand. Understending is something deeper than knowing and is not the direct product of scientific and mathematics knowing.

What do you think? Using a digital means taht you take care of the
image and have a direct control on the final picture, meanwhile using
a rangefinder camera means that you have a control on the entire
enviroment of the image (at least with the 50 mm and over) and are
directly in the midst of the event, when with the digital you are
outside the facts. With a normal SRL you have the control of the
image but you can't compose it waiting the right moment, and this is
also true for the digital camera that can't help you to catch the
right moment. By Joe

Hi, I have read somewhere that we leicaphiles have never to leave our
equipment in a closed camera bag, and then leather lens cases are
known to be especially bad because leather is a natural product where
fungi can grow. Now, how do you conserve/preserve your so less
precious leica equipment? Do you let it into a Domke/Billingham/Lowe
bag inside the nappa bag or you let it on a wood shelf, free to the
air? Do you use silical gel (but where is it possible to buy it?).
Thanks for your kindly answer.

I have had the same experience! But... it was for the film. In fact I used an old one and sometimes it gave me this problem. At infinity, moreover there is onother prblem: do you trust the light meter? Ok, this is the error! Never trust the light meter for the infinity! Why? Simply: at the infinity you have a lot of errand (vagabond) light and only the use of the hook may (may) help you. In fact the best is using the light meter for having an approximate idea and then closing half or 1 stop down. And, and, and... at the infinity where do you mesure the light? 2/3 have to be towards the earth and only 1/3 towards the sublime sky. By Joe

Kodakrome 64. Why not?

a bit overexposed, but great snaps.

What they do not tell you about the digital.
At the moment and for the two century to come, we will not have any
litterature about the digital, their conservation, the possibility of
reading it in the future, the compatibility, and so on.
All we know is that the normal word texts written with star programm
only 15 years ago need a special computer for beeing read today; that
the compatibility between one system and the other is not always
possible; that between ten years the power of the digital system may
require a different programm system for beeing implemented; on the
contrary a normal b&w negative even of the end of the '800 may be
processed today; a kodakrome slide after 40 years have very good dyes
(my personal archive). With a normal Leica M system you can use all
the lenses produced in these last fifty years, with a digital system,
what assurance have you? Are they going to substitute a plastic
camera with onother after only five years? (All this, of course, in
the name of the progress!!). The point is that we have no litterature
at all about the digital system. All the thing that they out there
are telling us is just ads, and nothing else: what about the sun
cycle radioactivity on the digital system? What about the perfect X
ray controll of the Xywkjztdewr airport? What about the drain of the
batteries?

35 asph 1,4 and 90 elmarit 2,8. A couple that sounds good.

Try a Summicron 90mm f2 old version.

I do not like your photo. And why? Because the mail box is not the real subject of the photo, but the green colour (which is not the best colour for a photo!). The mail box ought to be more in the centrer of the picture and not missing the «tail» as it is. Moreover, what abut to open the mail box and putting into a newspaper? It woul have be more realistic and expressive.
