In 2011, I had the same problem with my F100; I sent it in for repair to Nikon Service in Melville, N.Y., and in a fortnight it was back fully restored to original condition; don't remember the cost, but it was very moderate.

I have two wonderful 'portrait' lenses, AF 85/1.4D and AF DC 135/2D, both very sharp, with beautiful bokeh and no distortion; the second one has a unique front/back Defocus Control, but it is too subtle for me to discern.
