While I like the new design, and disagree with moving the unarchived
forum from the forum drop-down menu, I'm really sick of it crashing
my IE6, running widoze 98 at my office. Never happened before,
happens constantly now since the update. I had to post a new
question just to get it to take withour crashing or freezing.

Up last weekend, yes they allow tripods, and most likely will ask you to sign a release promising not to sell the images for commercial reasons.

I'm surprised that the unarchived forum was not deemed popular enough to put in the drop-down list. I do think it get's burried when it's not in that list. I look at it every time I come to pnet, and it took ME a fair bit to find it when it was moved. I think because of it's short duration, it should be one of the most visible forums on the site, at the very least in the drop-down list under forums. I usually go to it when I want a quick answer.

I don't know why that link didn't work. Here it is again:<a href=http://www.whitemountainphoto.com/gallery_new_zealand.html>www.whitemountainphoto.com/gallery_new_zealand.html</>

Joe, I just recently purchased the 4000 and haven't yet figured the ink cost on that one. Do you have the numbers per inch, for the 110ml or 220ml ink carts? I'm also purchasing from Atlex.
Thanks,

Ditto on the PS Elements. Also, do NOT load the Nikon software, as mentioned here in the archives, the Nikon capture software can cause cinflicts with PS Elements.

In Chorus now: "Lets all look on the rye side of life", phew phew, phoo phoo, phoo phoo, phoo phoo! Sorry, couldn't resist. In all seriousness, always nice to hear good news of another survivor in this world.

I find the same problem on panoramas on my 2200 and my 4000 on occaison too. I find that if I change it ever so slightly, 12.95" vs. 13", it prints, when it wouldn't at the exact size I wanted. No rhyme or reason.

I personally agree with the statements on both, matte and glossy. The matte doesn't quite "pop" as much as the glossy, but I don't care for the real shiny look of gloss. My favorite therefore is semi-gloss. For me, it offers the best of both worlds.

I agree you need to have a book or two as mentioned above, and yes there's no better substitute for actually using it. But I must say as a beginner, things went rather slow until I took a class at my local community college. I got so much out of it, I ended up taking an advanced P-shop class after the first one. It encourages you to use the program, but most important is having someone to answer your questions and show you how to accomplish what you're trying to do...absolutely invaluable if you can find a class in your area.

I can't speak for Baxter, but I can say the moose are very active in the White Mountains of NH around that time, so are the black flies/mosquitoes....bring your bug dope!

Owning a gallery, and participating in many juried art shows annually, I am concerned about my name, reputation, and quality of my work. I protect the image by stamping my name on the back, on the outer border away from the print, or stamp the back of the mounting board if drymounted. As mentioned above, I sign on the mat itself, leaving a clean image. This satisfies my clients, presents the work as my own, and protects the image as mine.

Thanks for the comments on my faithful companion who needs absolutely no motivation whatsoever to get up and out. She is a total snowdog, just like me, and I have some ski pictures with her, but none to upload..Here she is:
and here.

Up this morning, 4:45am, bed warm, beautiful wife sleeping, dog snoring...but 12" of fresh snow outside. Man, my mind must have spent 1/2 hour from 4:15 going back and forth..stay and sleep...get your **s out of bed. Finally, I need only whisper to the dog "wanna go skiing", and she's like a rocket down the stairs, waiting and whining at the door. That's one of my motivators! I agree with Steve, It's always a bit tough to actually make the movement out the door, but once I'm out I'm increadably happy I did so. There's no place I'd really rather be than outside in nature early in the morning. Drove 1/2 hour to my favorite ski area, skinned up, and sat on the summit at 7:00am. Man was it beautiful! Maybe not the perfect photo day as the clouds were fairly well in, but I took a few shots anyway...here's what I've gotten before from the same spot doing the same thing: <a href="http://www.whitemountainphoto.com/400jpg_pages/143_400_tuckerman_moon.html">www.whitemountainphoto.com/400jpg_pages/143_400_tuckerman_moon.html</a>
A good trick that also helps, is completely packing for the next morning the night before. First, it makes it easier to get out the door fast, second, knowing it's sitting in my kitchen waiting for me makes me feel even a bit more obligated to climb out of bed. The good feeling always carries through the day and sometimes longer, revitalized even now this afternoon, well worth it!
All the best!

Don, thanks for the link. After looking at it, I figured I would order the
replacement pads, but first try to blot the excess ink from the pads. I really had
to blot both pads on either end really well (alot of ink), but after that and a few
cleaning cycles, viola! I'm printing again! Thank you, thank you, thank you!
-
Thanks for the responses. The pad looks pretty saturated, so hope fully that's the problem. I'll check the link and give it a try. Any further suggestions, just in case, are still welcome. Thank you all.

Yesterday right in the middle of printing an 8x10 the printer started printing
excess ink completely filling the page black and so much ink it was gooped
on top of the paper and made a small mess inside. After cleaning things up
and trying it again, it just barely printed some sparse multi colored lines of
color where the image should be. After running head cleaning a few times,
the print head cleaning verification chart only printed three color bars, with
sporadic spaces even in these. I've since tried everything from multiple head
cleanings, letting it sit over night, and replacing all the ink cartridges one at a
time. I've run the Epson "printer check" stand-alone to confirm it's the printer
and not the software. Since changing out the inks, I don't even get a pattern
now when trying a test pattern after cleaning the heads or when running the
"printer check"...nothing, absolutely blank. The printer seems to run perfectly,
sounding like it should and appearing to print as it should, but not a drop of
ink on the paper. I've only owned it a couple of years, running 200-300 prints
through it. I already had to spend $300 last spring to have the print head
replaced when I had different problem. I really debated my decision last time
to just buy a new one, considering the cost to repair it, and foolishly believed it
would run a long life after repair..definitely not going that route again. Any
more ideas from the masses, before I scrap it. PS: Anyone know why I can but
a new one through Amazon and Adorama for $609, when everyone else is
$699?

Dave's so right about not putting together so many of each before you test the waters. Some of the pictures I love the most, I have found out are not the best sellers, and I've got one or two that I like o.k. but not thrilled about, that sell and sell. It's hard to be objective, especially with your own work.

Mike, thanks for the detailed customer side view. I already impart alot of this, but i've picked up some extra good insight from you, and it confirms some of my beliefs. As most things in life, it seems to work best when you try to put yourself in the other's shoes to really grasp what's needed, will be appreciated, and properly payed for.

Fred, It's almost impossible to get someone to do all that work cheap enough, and still have room to mark it up to make a decent profit for yourself. The only place you'll probably get to do such a thing is a custom frame shop or similar, and it will cost you more than you can reasonably mark up your work to make a profit(I know, I own one). As for presentation/display for sale, I can reccomend clearbags.com as the plastic sleeve you can put the final product in. Inexpensive and looks great.

Made mine with Dreamweaver3, but really need to upgrade with my new Mac and OSX. Any thoughts on Dreamweaver MX vs. Go Live? I like the idea that I'm used to Dreamweaver already making the upgrade easier, but I like what I've heard abouth the Go Live seemless transitions from Photoshop. Anyone who's tried both?

Pencil for signing luster/semi-gloss prints

I own and operate a gallery and find some customers don't like a signature on
the print itself, as it detracts from the image. I have to agree, and therefore
sign the mat, or leave a white space if you must as a border and sign in that
space.
