Well, the subject is great and the timing looks good. But, IMO you would be more successful using a smaller aperture, your 5D should be able to get a shallow DOF with a good lens. Or, use post processing to add some boke. That would help draw the viewers attention to the dancer and not the trees, grass, plants and fountain. A large DOF is great in landscapes, but no so much for humans IMO. I think a shot like this should be isolating the dancer.

Next, the background is an issue with this one, the tree is in a bad spot. And the fountain is a little unfortunate as well. The tree starts to interfer with the dancer, almost like it's part of her. And, the fountain, it looks like she is trying to touch it.

Both shallow DOF and watching backgrounds are very hard with a moving subjuect. But, in this case you have an advantage of re-staging the shot. I try and do some event type family photos where they can not be re-staged and have a lot of photos ruined by both of these issues.

Anyway, just my opinion, and an amateur one at that.

Good luck, it looks like a fun subject to photograph!

This photo op just cought my eye while I was walking around with my

new lens. At the moment, I think this is one of my best photos of

    a horse.

Well, intrusive because this was not a car show. It was a racing event and the other people were there to race, not to let someone take a good photo. They would have probably been accommodating and the guy loved the attention, but... Well, my mind was more on racing too.

I really liked this photo, and not just because of the hot model. Well, ok that helps a lot. But I love the lighting and composition. The blue look great on the model.

I've been wanting to get a photo of these flowers in a local park all

summer, this and another of the back have come out the best. I'll

post the other one next week sometime. But what do you think? Got a

new camera and so far I like the Macro capabilities.

Beautiful model, great composition and exposure. But, the circular catch light is disturbing. Try using a different flash or hot lights with a reflector.
  1. Most of the photo is pretty good, but overall does not work for me. I cannot tell who is the detainee and who are the plain-clothes police. So, it has a lack of contention and drama. No focus point of contention, no show of emotion on the detainee's part, no show of struggle.

It is not a bad attempt at news photography, but this is one I personally would not publish. Not that I have had a successful documentary photograph, just and observation from a viewer. I think news/documentary photography is very hard.

Unfortunately the politics leave a lot to be desired as well, no drama in people being childish.

Sorry this one does not do anything for me. The girl is sexy enough, but the window, the paper on the cabinet, the back of the chair, the clutter on the counters and on the cabinets, and the light fixtures all, IMO, overshadow any creativity that went into the photo. Too much competing background stuff, small DOF would not help either. The girl deserves better.
  2. It is an interesting photo, the person in the foreground looking into the camera makes the photo. Capturing more of the crowd holding the sign may have made the composition stronger. More faces may have given more of a editorial statement of a large support for the peoples message. A good image overall.

It is too bad that so many people in the world are intent on hatred rather than peace, love and commerce. It is a sad statement for all of humanity.

I like it. The illuminated plumes are pretty cool, and the offset of the picture follows the plumes. I would suggest playing around with the cropping as well, maybe putting the plumes off center.

The subject matter is disturbing, as it should be. But that is part of the appeal. We all live in a global village, pollution in one part of the world does not stay local.
