Wes, This is one of the best shots of its kind, that i can remember [and im getting on in age]. I think the light really adds a lot.

Wow, I think this shot would look great, even without the gull. But the addition of the bird in the shot, gives it that extra something. -

Nice shot Jason. I think black & white is often under used in bird photography, although it doesnt suit all subjects. I think you have made a good choice with this heron. I too think that cropping the top area may improve the overall appearance, but i think the top part is less distracting in black and white, than it would have been in colour.
