How can you guys complain about the airplane!!! I know it's a great shot of the mountains, but the airplane gives a dimension of TIME to the timeless. After all, this might be one of the only times that you'll ever see a jet fighter landing amidst the endless mountains of Afghanistan. If you guys had a painting of the Charge of The Light Brigade you'd probably say "I wish that those horses didn't wreck the nice view of the valley!!" Come on, nobody likes war, but it was one of the most significant facts of the past year and photography is the art that documents history. As far as the aesthetics go, I like it very much. It is very dangerous to tweak it in photoshop because you could spoil the "water-color" effect (as another poster called it). Congratulations on a very competant photo.

No, Craig, it's not dirt it's just his natural "Champaigne" color. The reason it kind of grouped together in little balls is partly due to the selective "Unsharp Mask" filter I used on him.

I tried to send a comment but it didn't go through so I'll try to write it and send it again: Laura, I really like the attitude that you show in your comments and in your photos, but I don't like all of them. I think you should only post your best work. You have a very nice aesthetic sense which will bring you a long way, cheers, Alex

To Doug Burgess, I can verify Peter's statement that that photo of HCB of a guy jumping a pool is not cropped. The french magazine called PHOTO, in a special edition on HCB, shows a photo of HCB's lab technician holding the negative of this particular photo, where you can plainly see that it isn't cropped. If it was cropped? So what? Does that make HCB a liar or a sinner?

I think it is a great tribute not only to the photographer, but to photo.net as well, as a forum expressing what's so good about the photographic art. The preserving of a so insignificant, momentaneous piece of life imparts an uplifting sensation to our spirit, and shows that photography, as the mirror of life, really turns the instant into the timeless. Congratulations on a truly great photograph, your professionalism allowed you to take full advantage of the luck that the muses bestowed upon you.

Very nice texture. Nice composition, I wouldn't crop at all. Looks like a tripod shot, too sharp for hand held, am I right? Nice portfolio.

First attempt that works, digital manipulation can seem a bit gratuitous but this work seems really well balanced. the innocence of the child counterbalances your cheating (manipulation). good work.

I think you really managed to produce an excellent effect. Congratulations. Alex.

Tweaked the Image Curves, then Saturation and Hues, afterwards more
Image curves and Crayon (or colored pencil)filter.

You really made it work, it's one of those shots where all the other photographers think "Why didn't I think of that". Very well done.Alex

I like it.

I like it.

I think you did a good job, but maybe you should have thrown a little light onto the foreground with fill flash or maybe a flash light on long exposure?
-
Great model, but I think the hair should be more of an "organized" windswept. All in All great photo.
-
I think that if it had a "catchlight" in the eye you would have brightenned up the photo a bit. A fill flash probably would do the trick, I think the area around the eye is just too dark. Otherwise, nice photo. Alex

Nice composition, maybe a human figure would help give a bit of perspective. It's kind of neat the two colors red and blue, but I think maybe you adjusted the red in Photoshop (please tell me if I'm right) becuase it seems just too uniform. If you had just a little bit of green (or yellow) grass in the front, I think the photo would seem more natural and be better. The photo on the net is a bit too small to fully appreciate, I'd like to be able to feel the texture more.
