I have been using OSX 10.4.5 and the Nikon 9000 for many months without problems.

Jordan: ICE off was the answer. Nice of Nikon to let us know. Thank you.

I am using a Nikon Coolscan 9000 for medium format negatives. I am not having good
results scanning black and white negatives. The scans come out horribly contrasty. I have
tried every option but to no avail. Help would be most appreciated.

I use Photoshop CS2 and an Epson r2400 printer. How does one print edge to edge without
border on 8 1/2 x 11 and 13 x 19 paper? Thanks.

Ii have a 203 FE. I use the 110mm more than any other lens. Buy the 1.4xe to use with it.
The lens gives beautiful background if stopped down to f2.0 and is very sharp at any f-
stop.

Did anyone hear of Fuji Film's recall of the 120 and 220 Fujichrome Velvia 100F (RVP 100F)
and Fujichrome Astia 100F (RAP 100F)? I understand that on an infrequent basis the film
will incorrectly produce the color blue.

I am interested to know what the difference is between the Hasselblad 350 CFE Tele-
Superachromat and 350 FE Tele-Tessar besides 1 stop in aperature. The Tele-Tessar
cost more even though I was always under the impression that the Superachromat
had the highest quality. I will use the lens for landscape photography. Thanks for
your help.

Please recommend the best portable tripod (good for hiking and travel) for a medium
format setup. I have used a Velbon 640 carbon fiber but it is now broken (the inside
components were very cheap). Thanks.

Billingham. I found it to be the best all around bag. I fit a 203FE,
250mm, 50mm, 110mm, 2 backs, PME finder, film and more.
Check their websites for options at http://www.billingham.co.uk/.

I shoot black and white film with a medium format camera and
want to outfit a new darkroom. What equipment (enlarger, lens,
etc.) is recommended in the $2,500 - $3,500 range?
-
Saadma: I would suggest taking a reflected meter reading with
a spot meter of the darkest area that you want detail and
assume that the correct reading is two stops lower than
indicated. I would then bracket the exposure by two and three
stops to increase your possibilities.
-
I suggest taking as much equipment as you can carry. You can
always leave certain items in the bus or in the hotel. A 150mm to
350mm telephoto will be the most useful. Bring lots of film and
a light weight tripod.

Thanks for all responses. I experimented with both transparency
and negative film in an attempt to find the most pleasing image
when printed.
The color of clothes were very accurate but skin tones were
overly red and showed veins and blemishes more than they
appeared in real life. I use a Hasselblad 203FE and felt like the
images were almost too sharp. I prefer sharp images but want
the model's skin to look more appealing.

I just finished my first in-studio shoot and tried five different types
of film. Most of my color photographs did not produce great skin
tones or were not very flattering. Could someone suggest a
great film to use that is available in 120?

Jeff:
I also considered an F5. I decided to go with the 203fe because
I wanted the bigger negative and I liked the feel of taking pictures
with a Hasselblad. I ended up buying a 110mm f2 and 40mm
f2.8 lens. I also bought a 1.4 tele-converter. The downside of
the Hasselblad system is the cost, weight of the system and lack
of modern convenience.
The 203 has a center weighted metering system. It is good but
not nearly as sophisticated as the F5.
The reason I didn't buy the 60-120 lens is that it is not as sharp
as the 110 and is even heavier. The 110 with the 1.4
tele-converter gives me 150mm and seems pretty sharp.
For landscape work you may want to buy the 40mm and the
180mm lens. Keep in mind that the lens size for medium format
cameras is not the same as 35mm systems. For example the
Zeiss 80mm is roughly equivalent to the Nikon 50mm.
Definitely rent one of the 500 series with a 80mm lens for a few
days before buying the system. The Hasselblad will be much
more cumbersome to use than the Nikon system.
Good Luck

Do either the tubes or bellows effect sharpness?
-
The 200 series will perform exactly like the 500 series when the
battery is dead if you have a CFE, CFi or CF lens. The same
goes for the flash sync - you can use up to 1/500 sec. with the
lens shutter just as you do with the 500 series.

I am new to medium format photography. I just bought a 203fe
and D-40 flash and cannot figure how to take a properly exposed
flash picture. I have read the directions to the camera and flash
and the Hasselblad Manual.
One example of a problem was a picture in a dimly lit room with
the f-stop at 2 and the camera set on automatic - the exposure
time was 23 seconds. What am I doing wrong?
-
Thanks for all the advice. I bought a used FE 110 for now.

I just bought my first MF camera. It is a 203 FE. I would like
some advice on what lens to buy first. Hasselblad is offering
$2,000 back on the FE 60-120 f4.8 zoom which would end up
costing the same as a FE 80 f2.8. I have also heard great things
about the FE 110 f2 lens, but it is twice as expensive. I take most
pictures outdoors of children and landscape but I also plan to
buy a flash so I can use it indoors. Any suggestions?

Make sure that you set the correct paper type prior to printing and tell PS to let the printer
determine the colors.
