  1. I live in Beijing, and I have many pictures of Tiananmen gate. I wanted to try to get a different picture of this familiar place, and for this picture I was holding my 17mm just above the ground.

    Speeding Wreck

These machines are LOUD, and they sound like old boat engines. These

guys were in a hurry, going at max speed down the main street of a

    small Chinese city.

I whish I could have managed to get the whole "thing" inside the

frame. On the other hand, I'm very happy with the sharp face, the

expression and eye contact of the closest guy.

  2. must mean Photographer of the week this week. It must be a near impossible task to pick the perfect POW for the elves every week, and upon entering Paulos folder it does not become easier to chose the best one. There are som many really excellent pictures in his folder. Congratulations Paulo, and keep up the good work.

wanted to give 10/10, but did not like what look like burning in at the top of the frame, seems to be a little bit to much. BUt the expressions are great, beautiful!
  3. This is a picture from a small Catholic Patriotic Association church

in Sanxi province. The Catholic Patriotic Association is under

government control and does not recognize the authorities of the

Vatican. However, most regular church goers personally consider

themselves to be a Roman Catholic, even if this is illegal in China.

Every year in China there is crackdowns and arrests on house churches

    in all kinds of religions.

    Where too now?

One of the pictures I consider to be my best from China. All the

young people in the picture is looking in the same direction as the

old man is pointing, but he himself and the old lady is looking the

other direction. Chairman Mao is looking straight forward...

  4. Congrat with POW, but personally I don't see why the elves chose this picture either. And in Dominiques folder there are much better pictures than this one.

And again it seems that the elves has chosen a composite, at least I can't see any other way to take a photo like this. (well, apart from a simple double exposure ofcourse, but the texture of the screen doesn't seem grainy enough to really come from a tv screen)

To take a picture af a tv screen without synclines, you need at least 1/25 sec exposure. Using ISO 32000 and with all the light coming from a tv, this means (on my tv) F11. What did he use for lighting the rest of the room, HMI lights?

I agree with Peter regarding the composition of the room random and cluttered. But the picture on the tv looks nice, I'd like to see this without the room and "tv-frame"

There are so many god pictures on this site that really capture a "decisive moment", but still the elves like to chose simple photoshopped pictures for POW.

Anyway, Dominiquie, I really like some of your other pictures. You have several I would rather see as POW!

  5. I was in Eritrea on a documentary project, near the Sudan border. We

stopped for the night near the river Gash, and could hear a lot of

screaming animals. A caravan of camels on its way across Eritrea

didn't manage to cross the river. Local villagers tried desperately

to drag the camels out of the river before sunset.

I managed to shoot 1 color film and 1 roll of Tmax 100 before it

became to dark, mostly using my 18-35 mm zoom with Nikon F4.

This camel was the only one they managed to get loose before dark.

Only one camel died during the night. 3 years earlier the same

happened, and then over 40 camels were drowned during the night.

  6. the little girl was visiting the tempel together with her

grandfather. She had just learned to walk, and stopped right in front

of me, staring. I guess I was the first foreigner she had seen...
