Dang Monkey, it's like a whole rock festival on one bench. You could be one of the band members for the Rev. Horton Heat. The kid you're sitting next to used to be in
Silverchair I'm sure. Next to him is <a

Yup, I like Dennis Stock too. His 'Made in USA' is a good overview of his work. It has several of his James Dean photos, and selected highlights from other projects as well. Worth a look if you run across a copy.

Quite a read Eric! Man, what an uncomfortable situation. But those make for the best memories sometimes as you prove. It would have been a 'nice' story if you had found a generic pub, but it becomes a riveting read since you didn't! Well done!
Glad you made out OK too Steve.

I've been looking at lot at bags recently for much the same reason Aaron. I think I'm going to end up with a Domke F-5xb. It is the right size for my purposes.
There was thead within the last couple of months here on the LF that discussed the F-5xb in depth. You might want to search for it and see what people contributed there as well.

Hey Jack - As I understand it he deleted himself.

I communicated with Nels recently. He felt his time for photography was somewhat limited. He said he is going to continue shooting, but his time constraints don't permit him to spend any time here. Too bad for us I guess...

I think Jeff Spirer and Brad~, among others, have mentioned that this mag is one of their favorites. The word may have been spread mostly on the Street & Doc forum, but it's worth mentioning again.

If you have the room you might as well stick in the extra camera. However, challenge yourself to only use one system while knowing in the back of your mind you have other options for some particular shots. Bottom line: don't be too photo-obsessed and miss out on the interaction with family. You don't wanna be remembered as the unsociable
photohound!

Mark - Thanks for clarifying your reasoning. I did notice the iris color was wrong, but I have seen a few examples in the field of unusual iris color. After more study, and with the help of Michael's last photo, I agree with your ID of a young Broad-winged Hawk. I've been reading all my hawk books and using this as an opportunity to learn. Thanks for the intelligent debate!
-
Hey Mark - Thanks for catching my error. That's what I get for listening to the radio while trying to type. Actually, I did mean Sharp-shinned Hawk. In my opinion, it is quite likely an immature, first-year SSH. A first-year is really heavily streaked like that. Check out the Sibley's Guide illustration for first-year (page 112) for what I mean.
Also, check out that tarsus. It is extremely long, much longer than almost any buteo such as Broad-winged. The bill also isn't heavy enough IMO to be a Red-tailed. I'm fairly sure this is a first-year Sharp-shinned Hawk.
-
Michael - If you're in the D.C. area, it is probably an immature Sharp-tailed Hawk. It's not too uncommon to see them in backyards as smaller birds such as sparrows are their primary prey. Thanks for sharing!

I do know what you mean Lauren! Even though I have clients who are very happy with the work produced, I am often very happy with about 5% of what I deliver. I think another 45% or so is solid, if not spectacular work, and the rest is OK, but just not that great.
However, I had a bride see her photos for the first time last Thursday and cry when she saw them. In addition, she sent me an email today just to follow up on how pleased she was and that her friends and family loved the pictures. Yet of the 500 photos I delivered, there were only 20 or so (4%) that I think would be worthy of a portfolio presentation.
I completely understand what you mean Lauren about being one's own worst critic.

... the less money paid, the less pressure.

Hey Lauren - I'm not challenging you directly, but more submitting this for ideas from others (perhaps should be another thread!): Do others believe this to be true? While less money may not mean a life-changing, must-capture moments will happen like at a wedding, there is still pressure to produce, isn't there? You don't want to disappoint parents at a christening any more than you want to disappoint a bride and groom. Perhaps I put too much pressure on myself, but the amount of money involved has very little to do with pressure to me. I want to get results, and have satisfied clients, regardless of the amount exchanging hands.

Lauren, I'm not suggesting you coast and don't give your all on low-cost events, and to a degree I understand your intent with the statement. I just wonder if others place equal pressure on themselves regardless of event and money charged.

Hey Sandy - This may be on the late side for your purposes, but if there is a AAA office near you, they will take your passport photos for you as well. As I understand it, you do not need to be a AAA member to take advantage of this.

I'm glad to see what has been posted John, but when I saw the thread title I assumed it would have tattoos and piercings!! Oops!
-
Eric - I saw that video yesterday and watched it several times while watching different vehicles and how lucky they each were. Many people were lucky that day.
BTW, youtube.com is a great place to waste time. If you haven't seen/aren't familiar with Jimmy Kimme's 'Unnecessary Censorship' bits, do a search on 'censorship kimmel year' and prepare to be entertained. Very funny...and very wrong.
Amazing story Beau*. I'm sorry about the eventual end result though.
