  1. I am spending from March 12 to March 25 in Natal. Intend to stay in

Howick until March 21 then 4 days in Scottburgh. Plan to visit

Boer/Zulu War Battlefields Area and go to The Berg.

Would appreciate wonderful hints and unique views etc. from people

who know the areas photographically. Also any up to date advice on

areas to avoid for safety reasons. (I will, of course, contact

local police re safety issues when I am there.) Also I will not

flaunt my SLR and will hire my sister as a bodyguard!

  2. I am planning something very similar. I live in Hornsby and also have an EOS 300 and 28-105 lens. B&W is my thing too.

I am semi-retired so the grey hair could perhaps bridge the gap a bit. Would you be interested in trying a dual photo shoot down at Bondi?

  3. Darkroom Skills

Two years ago I was in the same situation and I went to a local course on basic Black and White skills. The emphasis was on the dark room and how to get an image out of the mistakes you are going to make as a beginner!

It was an evening course about a dozen nights at one night a week. The instructor was a real character. A Finn who had done a Masters in photography in Hungary. (He spoke good English too.) He had done a lot of social photography, dark moody stuff; but he brought photography alive to the five of us who shivered through the mild Australian winter evenings.

All in all the best thing I ever did. Now all slowness is due to my own laziness. But at least I know whom to blame.

Remember, the future is ahead of you so live in the future Richard
