192.168.1.1 is a private network address so it is unlikely to be photo.net at 216.127.244.133. ICMP is "Internet Control Message Protocol" http://www.faqs.org/rfcs/rfc792.html has details about ICMP which might help explain what is going on.

If you're worried about the lens being too slow (aperture wise) then you could always shoot with a higher speed film. If you don't plan to enlarge the images that much then the increased grain probably won't be a problem. I have a 75-300mm f4-5.6 and it's okay but then I hardly ever enlarge over 7" x 5".
