The expression in this childs face is priceless. I can almost hear it now, "come on dad, are we done yet?". I like the space above the head, but may have cut just a little out. Wonderful lighting and tonal range. The gray fog around the little guy are his legs if I'm not mistaken. I believe he is wearing sweatpants and has his legs criss crossed under him.

Larus, thanks for the input. I too agree that it is a little dark. Maybe I will try lightening up a little when I get the chance. I was also toying around with the idea of cropping in tighter, but opted to keep in the circle of light in the upper left. What do you think?

The double jointed middle finger (left hand) on miss snottypants' photo is freaking me out!

Incredible!! I love the darkness of this with the small amount of light coming from the windows. Great atmosphere!

This picture is more about the tree in the foreground. Way too much fill flash. Maybe try -1.5 or -2 on flash exposure to tone down the tree. Background has about the right exposure.

Extraordinary light. Composed and exposed flawlessly! Great job! I'm glad you got her above the horizon line and her dark hair in front of a light cloud.

I get a very comforting feeling looking at this picture. The balance and composition are great. I particularly like the bright white of the door and the window accented by the dark of the foreground and ceiling. Wonderful mood created here!!

Taken on a trip through Yellowstone. Note buffalo near tree line.

I love this shot! I get the feeling of falling or being under water. The lighting is exquisite and leaves a bit of mystery with her face being shadowed. Great!

Three girls lounging after playing with the hose on a hot summer

I have posted another shot from this same location. The other one doesn't (imo) have the same magical light. The lighting for this shot lasted about 30 seconds and had started before I even got set up. I hurried to get something hence the slight horizon tilt and the insufficient crop of the tree. I still feel lucky to have gotten what I did. Please look at the other to see that I actually can compose a photograph when I have ample time. Thanks to all that have taken the time to leave comments, they are all greatly appreciated! Dennis, are we related?

This is another shot of the bay. Cropped a little better than the
first but I feel the lighting isn't as magical. The first posting's
light lasted only a few seconds not giving me a lot of time to compose
perfectly. What do you think of this one?

This was taken on one of the first weekends after my short term move

Tris,
I like the composition and agree with previous post that including the tree and the fire hydrant do add important elements to this mural. I also would like to see another attempt at this with possibly you standing off to the right and staring up at that wonderful eye. Question, how do you keep the color from shifting horrendously with a 75 second exposure? Is it a filter during exposure, or fine tuning in photo shop post exposure? By the way, what happened to you? I haven't seen you leave any comments in POW in quite some time. I used to look forward to it every week.

There are two things I love, window lighting and kids. I have always loved window lighting, but just recently figured out what it means to be a parent and what a parents love is all about. This little girl is sooo precious and you captured this tender moment beautifully. Congrats on being a parent and taking a wonderful pic!!

I love the composition and the interaction between the two sisters. What a great capture! Lighting is impeccable!

Hi Pamela. Thanks for commenting and those others who have. I used colored pencils on a matt fiber based paper. I prefer to use pencils as I can be more precise with the placement of the color.

and printed on color paper. Please critique.....

Julian,
Glad you finally posted this. This and fog(?) are my two favorites of yours for the mood they create. The title for this one "execution last smoke" helps to make this already interesting photo more mysterious. Is this person really being executed and requesting a last cigarette or is the cigarette the thing that is actually killing her. (I'd probably go with the later due to the focus on the cigarette!) Excellent keep up the good work and post more!
