Mandar, the usual policy of Russian/Ukranian made equipmet was to export the best products and leave junk to sell inside. You may have a higher chance of buying not so good quality camera if you buy over there.

It's not either/or. I have 2 EOSs and Mamiya 7II and use all of them
It depends on situation, it's matter of personal choice, not
somebody's suggestion. Yea, 20x24 from 6x7 negatives look great. In
almost all the cases I have to carry both medium format and 35 mm.
It's hard to beat 400mm telephoto or macro on Canon. Plus, having
zoom Canon lenses helps to compose. And yes, medium format is slower
to work with. Last year I went climbing and trekking to Nepal, I did
not even think about taking with me medium format camera. Canon makes
good photos, no doubt. Chuck, you have to ask yourself whether and
why you need medium format.

I've been using 430 for more than 10 years. Used it in not favorable
conditions - high mountains, cold, desert, heat, dust. Carried it a
lot throughout rough places, took lots of shots with it. Works fine.

My experience with Tamron was dismal. Aperture was not closing around
freezing temperature. Sent it to Tamron to fix, they said it was
normal, and lens should not be used in cold weather. Canon's any lens
is no problem, even way below feezing.

This is what was in NY Times on Feb 11:
Foveon is set to begin shipping new type of digital image sensor that is said to be first to match or surpass photographic capabilities of 35-millimeter film; sensor, invented by Foveon's founder, Carver Mead, and made by National Semiconductor, is being used in $3,000 camera that will soon be sold by Sigma; device contains approximately 3.53 million pixels; Foveon sensors may perform equally well capturing moving images and could make photographic film obsolete.

According to the February issue of Popular Photography, it's nearly a tie between them, with Polaroid delivering its best output faster then Nikon. Advantages of Nikon - Digital ICE, Polaroid does not have it.

Robin, I seldom put stadard sizes into my albums without cutting of something, it's kind of cropping for lab-made prints. To accomodate this I buy acid-free pages and mounting corners from Light Impressions - www.lightimpressionsdirect.com/servlet/OnlineShopping. It's more work to mount the prints with mounting corners, but any size can be accomodated, plus it's archival environment.

Shipping is not prohibited. B&H opted to go with FEDEX and their 3
days shipment does not allow hazardous materials to be shipped. Call
Adorama. They will ship it UPS ground. I switched to Adorama
completely because of that. Adorama's prices are either the same or
slightly cheaper.

Is the whole camera actually dead or just LCD? If LCD only it has its
own battery, and it may be dead.

Ted, I have 4550 XLG which is the same only large column. I use 80mm APO Rodagon to print 6X7. I have to diappoint you, there are not too many problems with this set. It's good. The only small problem I had was that column was not aligned with baseboard which was easy to correct by attaching masking tape to the bottom of the easel.

Very often when I shoot 43mm I don't attach ext. viewfinder. I hold it in front of my eye just to get the composition, notice where the center is, then point camera's internal viewfinder's center to that spot. Faster, less hassle.

There are also OTT-Lights that allegedly give daylight simulation. Has anybody tried them?
-
Has anybody tried them extensively outdoors? In snow, dust, rain. I have Gitzo G226 which is pain to use, although it was pretty good when it was new. Locks became too tight, legs jam. Cleaning does not hel. Is this a problem with aluminum material or it's design issue? Any of such experiences with Hakuba?
-
What if these prints are printed on Epson wide format printer? Are they going to be as good as traditional prints?
-
Has anybody tried Hackuba carbon fiber tripods? They cost half as
much as Gito and seemed just as good. This is just a first impression
in a store. Has anybody tried them in practice?
-
I bought it around February/March of this year. If the changed the factory, then either they have to reduce price by factor of 10 or 20, or if they charge $400 it must be really good quality. Producing junk for $400 - it sucks.

In my case al all knobs worked, but ball movements were toooo stiff and jerky, even when friction control was set to zero. I sent it to Arca, they sent it to France to fix. It work for few months of very modest use and then started doing the same thing again.
-
Just a suggestion: I used to carry my Benbo tripod in checked laggage in the backpack. After flying few times its legs started being wobbly and not as stable anymore. What probably happened, my backpack was under other loads and side force was applied to it. But I guess we have no much choice as to carry as carryon.
-
B1 is sturdy provided it works. Mine started being stiff after 3 days of usage. I sent it for repair. After using it few times within past 4-5 months its movements are stiff and jerky. Shooting in virtical position is almost impossible - toooo stiff even with friction control is set to zero. It looks like this used to be a good product, but for the past few years no more.
-
Well, it has been few months since my Arca got repaired in France. I've used it may be 6-7 times since that in warm weather, no dust, no rain. It was good for the first few times. Now its movements are stiff. I am ready to throw it away. This is a worst piece of equipment I've ever had. JUNK.

I've used marbles for years. They work well, except when I what to
preserve concentrated partially filled chemicals when their amount is
too small. In cases like this I use Protectan.

Shipping film via air is OK. Or at least it was OK. Shipping
companies' cargo was not x-rated. I've been mail-ordering all my film
for the past 6 years and never had a problem. This may or may not
change. We have to see new regulations being imposed, whether carry-
laggage machines will be as safe for a film as used to, and whether
had inspection will still be allowed.

I agree with Isaac. I have Tokina 400mm. Autofocus crawls, you miss
everything while this lens is focusing. For action shots I have to
use it on manual focusing. Plus manual focus ring does moves during
autofocusing, which is annoying, I have to remember not to grab it,
Canon does not have this problem. Optically the lens is good.
