  1. I like this one a lot. The water is beautiful! The fountain wasn't on when I was there :( The only thing critique wise is that it feels like the foreground is thrown off balance by the (wow, I can't think of the word at all) 'thingy' in the lower left. The colors are great too!

This is a crop from a larger image. I converted to B&W using ACR (PS

CS). Any comments or suggestions? Specifically, is there enough

shadow detail? It's slightly dark on my monitor here at work...

    Thanks!! Brian

I think this might be a love it or hate it kind of photo (I love it) -

but I wanted to get some input :) This is blended from a couple

different channel mixer conversions to get the lighting that I wanted.

Anyway, what do you think? Thanks!!!

This is two photos overlapped - one in focus on the foreground flower,

the other on the background flower. I converted using the channel

mixer. Any comments or suggestions? Thanks!!!

Here's another Calla Lilly. I converted this one to b&w using each channel as a layer and

used more of the green channel. The previous version of this I posted was much less

'clean' looking. Anyway, do you think the background is distracting? Thanks for the

    comments!!! Brian

This is another in the set of B&W lilly images. Any comments on this

one? This was converted to black and white with the channel mixer and

then I burned some of the background away (using the overlay layer

    method). Thanks!!!

  2. I think the composition is great on this one. I also like the effect of the infrared filter on the cliffside vegetation - it helps draw the eye in to the image (from the dark cliff on the right to the light vegetation in the center/left) along with the lines formed by the shore. I agree that the sky could have some more contrast but only if it didn't detract from (or blend with) the vegetation on the cliff. Brian
  3. I like the reflection. It creates another set of lines leading you through the image. The only thing I would change (if it were possible) would be to take it from a slightly higher point of view to bring the bridge platform away from the top of the hills. Otherwise I love it! Brian
  4. Hey Wilson, this is definately a unique shot of the bridge. I haven't seen many from this angle that worked so well. I like that the fog creates a transition in to the image instead of cutting off abruptly - it works well with the similar softness (not a bad softness) created by the motion of the water. The colors are excellent also!

This is a yellow lilly after a little rain. I used the channel mixer

to convert to b&w and the "overlay" method for burning some of the

background to create a more muted look. Any comments or suggestions -

    they're all appreciated! Thanks! Brian

  5. Thanks again Stefano! I agree with your comments about the fence. After I posed the question I tried cropping it out and it seemed slightly 'uncomfortable' - probably becuase cropping out the fence cut out about a third of the light carousel area and it didn't balance very well. If the fence just wasn't there to begin with it might be more workable. I don't know.

Anyway, regarding your edit...I think I know what you mean, but I wouldn't be able to put it any better! The Seattle Center images Wilson has are truly amazing and when I took these I was absolutely trying to learn from some of the things he had done - and I definately have. Why not learn from the master, right? Anyway, I appreciate your input, I emailed Wilson a link so he can check them out also. I think you get another 7/7 for your comments here!!

Interesting observation about the background appearing to be lit by the flower - excellent point!

I had originally intended to have a black background but the image was definately more interesting and had more depth this way - your personal preference is right on!

    Thanks again for the comments.

Stefano - thanks for the great review! I totally agree with what you said - especially about the curl and the lighting around the stem pulling your eye back down in to the image. I didn't have any more room to work with on top but I do think it would be nice to have a little more space.

Earl - at one point I had pretty much blocked out the background (it was almost black) but I think you're right about it creating a nice setting for the flower.

    Thanks again!!

A different look than the others I've taken. What do you think? I

wanted the flower to have a slightly glowing look and I also decided

to leave some detail in the background (although not much). Any

    comments? Thanks in advance!!! Brian

This is the third b&w lilly picture I have. The lines leading to the

flower are the edges of one of the leaves on the plant. Anyway, what

    do you think? Thanks!! Brian
