    Levitation

I was just trying to get a shot of him in the air, all the rest is a bonus, even the funny nose & mustache effect.

Fred, yes, the next series will be this boy floating away... The pool is one my dad built when I was about 5 years old. The boy survived this, but I did play a trick on him later that made him do a mean belly buster.

I'm having a big party here this weekend and may have a chance for some better "flying people shots" Maybe I'll hide the wires better.

  1. Now Fred, you know there are perspective control lenses for 35mm cameras. They aren't very practical, unless you want to do architectural photography for a living with a 35mm, but they do exist.

Lisa, it appears that the roof is designed to slide back and forth, as the pivot point and the supports are all there. The easiest way to get a less distorted image here is to shoot vertically with the top of the building at the top of the frame. That would minimize the distortion with the focal length you used here.

  2. Other than the nice foreground and lovely background, this one is just terrible.

I think Terry was trying to say that he wanted a saturated background. It's sacreligous to some people to leave a natural looking background. Just tell him that the Velvia setting on your digicam wasn't working that day.

  3. It does appear to be unnaturally dark to me as well. The reflections off the plants may be what makes this seem to be impossible lighting, but it is still a nice image. The only other thing Id like here is a lower angle so a couple of sunflowers would break through the horizon.

    Curtains

Michael, all these are inflating. The title came from the window-like effect the 2 foreground balloons have on the sky. They kinda look like curtains pulled back to reveal the outside world.

I noticed that all the balloons had a piece at the top that can separate, so my guess is that they can quickly deflate by letting the hot air out the top.

The polarizer would have helped, I am sure. It just wasn't practical to use it because I changed lenses rather often and the Cokin stuff is too cumbersome. Maybe I'll have a screw-on Moose polarizer there next time, especially for my 28-105mm lens.

  4. I like Michael's whittling, but primarily because it gets rid of the small shore at the right edge. If I had my whittling knife out, I'd chop some sky before I chopped the water & reflections.
  5. Cropped the sides to get this one in square format. The top of the

balloon is on the film, but thanks to the print lab, it's not on the

print. Is it important here? I wish the woman looking over the side was

    easier to see as well.

  6. Thanks Wayne, glad to have you back in action.

Lisa, I actually double and triple checked that it was five balloons after naming it that.

Michael, I didn't crop the left simply because I placed that basket in that position on purpose when I framed the shot. I didn't want it to feel as tight as a Fred crop.
