But anyways. Love this shot. Its my kind of abstract, shape and texture.

About time. Lasse's work is amazing and deserves every bit of this wonderful attention. This particular choice is very well done. The previsualization required to create such a work is really astounding. Its not scattered and haphazardly assembled, but precise, containing many different photographic skills (macro, portrait, landscape, digital darkroom, etc.).

We dont all want to shoot street or take pictures of Yellowstone. Great artist are not a product of their technology. They are simply great artists who are forced to use the tools of their time. Clone Leonardo da Vinci, grow him up in the 21st century, and watch what he creates. Would it not be a masterpiece because he used acrylic paint or maybe even, god forbid, that technological cheating device, a camera?

This is a great shot. I might suggest cropping out the dark line at the bottom of the frame. That would help balance out the composition a little. I really love the high contrast.
  1. Im not sure if its your best landscape yet, but definitely a keeper. Great lighting and composition. Glad to see you shooting with a bigger piece of film your work deserves it. I know Im glad I moved up. Im never going back.

    Great shot.

First off. . . Congrats on POW, very well deserved. I thoroughly enjoy your photography.

Vuk raises some interesting points, and also some long debated questions of art as well. I will dismiss the questioning of this piece as forced art. I love the idea of creating a photo, painting with real 3d objects and lighting conditions, with the right tools and the creative mind, anyhting is possible, as is displayed in this weeks POW.

I believe in this photo's case, some of the techinical decisions and equipment choices could be questioned. It screams for a high resolution large print, and I have a feeling that this particular image may not be able to provide the pixels. Renoir did not paint his masterpieces with poster paint. In this type of image I feel you must push the bondries of both the technical and creative sides of photography. This particular image succeeds in the creative but fails to be represented in the most techincally appropriate way (Medium or Large format Macro, even 35mm).

And I would like to announce that Kodak has taken BW film to all new levels. . . COLOR!

On a less humorous note. I was there too, and I took that same picture, only not so widddde.

  2. I disagree about the cloth in front of the face. It doesn't destroy the concept, just change the way the photo works. I like the motion of the arms it keeps the eye from wondering out of the frame.

I like the concept here, but I think the composition is just to cluttered to allow focus on the subject. Again, though, interesting work.

  3. Classic wave. Ansel Adams did a series, "Surf Sequence, San Mateo County Coast, California, 1940," that is quite similar. Its definitely worth a search to find those images.

I would suggest that a BW version may lend itself more to the abstract nature of the composition, draw the eye to the shapes instead of, "Im a beach and a wave and some bubbles."

  4. The composition is akward, but the lighting is excellent. The tree on the far left doesn't really add the sense of space but compresses it. This conflicts with the light airy feel the bright leaves give. The idea and exposure have merit, but I think they need further exploration.

I always marveled at the way this particular type of flower holds light. You have really captured something here. The composition and lighting really work perfectly. I love the way the light falls off towards the base of the flower.

Great shot. I wish it was on a big piece of film though. It would look great big big big.

Jay. . . well you've trimmed down your folder. This image is fantastic. The new series is great, love the cyanotype look, very well done. Your ideas are always something new and relevant.
  5. If I could suggest some minor editing to bring out the pattern effect. I would clone out the highlight area between the bars in the upper right and burn in all the darker areas to just increase the impact of the image as a whole.

    Love the shot.

  6. I think to be totally effective this image needs to be shot on a format with movements. Its an image that deserves a big negative.

Strong composition and color, make for great potential, but I think it just lacks a little punch. Thats probably also due partly to internet compression and artifacts.
