I like it Chris. It's about the dress, not a model. And it's slightly surreal with her head poppin' out of that dress as if the whole thing was floating or hanging on that bizarre wall. The light is where I have doubts -- since you went for complementary colors I think that a little more contrast in light wouldn't hurt -- unless you did not want more texture at all? congrats, maria.

I think it is she, Linda (don't you agree Wolfie and doesn't that change everything?) And she's going to smash her big beak on the concrete below. Mike, do you have a sea gull farm, now? come over and leave some dung on my bicycle shop. we all are exhausted after long days full of missed photo opportunities, heh.

  1. you gotta love this one (and what a handsome man you got here). there's something ultimately erotic in the young male workers wearing dirty clothes and helmets with those very photogenic googles/glasses. take it from the lady. tones are perfect, with that very attractive luminosity, some areas (see the very far background!) are almost transluscent -- you should look for the same kind of lighting when you go shoot more there.

composition -- the out of focus ladder-like thing couldn't be better positioned -- it is a natural extension of the handsome man's cocky and at the same time cute self-bearing. These oval things on the left are OK although I'm starting to have doubts. They go well with the shapes of their helmets but might be too protruding. The third worker should have taken a walk but I found him only after an extensive looking so it does not really matter. I like that second worker -- his shy smile and averted face make a nice juxta with the cute foreground hero.

Now, I am so used to the 35mm format that I just can't get over the fact that I won't see the rest of the foreground man's legs. I think even one boot in a frame would do it -- big dirty boots are very photogenic as well, trust me (it's funny -- most of recent comments on one of my shots spin around cut off foot; but here, i think the boot in would anchor this man, sort of like an exclamation mark statement). Can't decide as yet but I think this one is the best in this very good folder. I really like what you are doing with your underground series.

I agree with Andy on composition although i would add a bit more room around it. The tones are splendid. I haven't visited you in a long time (wasn't visiting anybody for a long time) and I see you got your Diafine. The tones here are splendid. How do you like your diafine negs?
  2. I think that's a woman, Charo. Guillermo, you just left such a thoughtful and encouraging comment on my not so good photograph that I will have a hard time to tell you I don't think this' a good composition. The expression if fine, but composition's really what I object to -- you have here three lines that split this image horizontally: the foreground line of the pins, the background white-ish cloth, and the darker line of trees. The woman's head is popping out of there with too little of her body attached to it not to make it look sort of grotesque. And there's some vertically oriented white stuff behind her/his head. I tried really hard to make sense out of it but I can't. We are ole PT friends and I hope we can tell each other when we fail -- I expect the same from you.

can I have that Tinman once you're done with the series? it's so cool. how much do you want for it? ok, ok ... don't say i'll tell you how much you want later.
  3. i like it. disregarding a cool idea, i love the photographic work here -- it's well done (maybe you could've taken care of that tilt better but i buy it with the tilt cause it reinforces the impression of the ominous falling of the other crack head). a successful shot, how bout this for a critique. each time i come to you, i miss Lou's hoarsing around.
  4. i have to admit you're more consistent in your work than i ever be (my inglis cracked). ... this might be one of your best egg shots -- all the triangles & rectangles play beautifully on my screen. whaaaaaaaaat's up, brother.
