1.
What's the problem? Can't post photos that are used in a context other than gear testing?
Sorry, haven't shot any brick walls or newspaper pages with the cell phone to see how it stacks up against a Summicron.
I've gotten a lot positive response to the cell phone photos in this piece I put together. How about posting the link with the disclaimer, "Do not respond to the political opinions expressed within on photo.net and just focus on the creative aspects?"
More than half the writing gets past the politics and is really about life in general with the photos illustrating the feelings.
2.
Brian, what did you mean by, "I don't think he wrote anything?"
What about all the words in between my photos? Confused by your comment.
I think of myself as artist/photographer first, but somehow people respond more stongly to my writing. I like working the two together. Makes me think about the Lewis Hines quote, "If I could tell the story in words, I wouldn't need to lug around a camera." Hmmm, I can probably tell the story better in words, but I like exploring it in photos! Best!

 3.
Hahaha! Good reply Tim! :)
I like shooting my little Samsung Nexus for informal documentary purposes... then mix up the photos with my words.
Actually, I thought my sociopolitical rant was in support of Walmart and calling for a "kinder and gentler" government! :)

 5.
Thanks for looking and taking the time to comment.
What I was after was a consistancy in the whole body of photographic work, and I think I achieved that. It probably works better in the book where there is just a large block of images and the subtle differences immerge as you look through them.

 6.
I would get the glass lens 120GN, just more romanticly bad IMO.
What kind of scanner? If you have one with digitalICE I would consider shooting the fantastic Kodak BW400CN. If you don't have a pro lab that can develop it for you Walmart will do it... just takes a week or so to get your film back.

ebay was the cheapest everytime i have bought. freestyle and adorama have good prices sometimes.

 7.
not to defend the Holga... but if you are going through a conventional source or ebay you will be hard pressed to beat the Holga... two apertures (possible), strap lugs, fast enough shutter and a focusing lens.

It doesn't have strap lugs, but a Bella 66 would be a possibility.

The Clacks are decent and kind of cool, but very slow shutter speed and not close focusing.

Lubitels are fun... not exactly a Holga thing, but still fun and will vignette etc.

Box cameras with a squinty little view finder are torture, even even if they are made by Zeiss.

If you are willing to live with the lack of speeds and focus, the Baby Brownies are really cute, especially the original model with sports finder... well, then the field becomes wide open and there will be all kinds of cameras.

I would just get the glass lens Holga or the Lubitel though...

 8.
Barnacks are lighter and smaller than most metal bodied SLRs, framing accuracy sucks... they are the PITA that you have to love to use (I do... Leica IIIc).

For close ups you need an SLR IMO... or 4x5 with ground glass back.

I hate to say it, but I really think a modern plastic SLR and AF lenses is the way to go. I shoot Canon in modern mounts. Film bodies are going for a song. The EOS 3 is a spectactular body for under $300 mint used.
good luck, you are buying film gear at the right time for a limited budget.

 9.
I think the older Lubitels are much nicer IMO. I just found a mint Lubitel-2 for $20 at a local camera store. Wonderful camera. My 166 had problems.

I would only get a classic Holga as you say, but I like the look of the glass lens better than the plastic one (the glass one is sharper in the center, but more blurry around the edges, it also has much nicer tonality which I think adds up to a more pleasing look).

I would never buy a Holga with builtin flash, but I did get the little Holga 120 flash for $13... nice for when you one to use on (it's really just a rebadged Starblitz).

Fun cameras!!! Have fun when you get yours!!!!

:)
