I realize this is a long shot, but figure it's worth a try. I had an account with the username DanielJM but lost access to it when I gave up my .com website and associated email. I simply forgot to change the email associated with the account, so I can't recover the forgotten password. It's not a big deal, but if it's possible to combine the accounts that would be great. I realize I'd have to somehow be able to demonstrate that the old account is mine, and that might not be possible. Thanks in advance. Dan

Right, good point. Given the content of the intro post to this forum it seemed obvious to me that the purpose was the latter, as I wrote "Surely this forum isn't a solicitation for publishable critiques, it's a place for people to get useful feedback on their images." Of course, it's also clear that people who post images here can ask for whichever type of feedback they want, so I don't see a need to rigidly define it up front. If someone wants art criticism they can simply ask.

Thank you for clarifying. I suspect I would not have seen your post as accusatory if we were chatting in person, because your tone and demeanor would have conveyed your intent more accurately. The words by themselves were, obviously, taken as critical by several of us. I'm happy to consider it just an example of the hazards of non-verbal communication. Cheers! Dan P.S. Here is something from a colleague of mine on the definitions of different kinds of art criticism as well as formal analysis. I'm not an expert, but she is and I trust her to give a good introduction. ART CRITICISM AND FORMAL ANALYSIS OUTLINE

Maybe I missed it, but I don't recall seeing anyone who posted an image here complain about the feedback they received. Plus, in the intro post it was made clear that posters can ask for very specific responses by using up to 10 responses of their choosing. Surely this forum isn't a solicitation for publishable critiques, it's a place for people to get useful feedback on their images. If anyone wants a professional critique they can always hire a freelance art critic.

I think it would benefit from some significant cropping because, I not only cannot tell what the subject is, I don't have any sense of the scale. Is it an oil drilling platform or a duck blind? It needs to more obviously convey the scale so I can imagine myself in the image to make me feel the solitude you want. It looks like you have enough resolution to do some fairly aggressive cropping. Also, I think I get why you centered the subject, for the solitude effect, but I think it would work better slightly off center. Then you could eliminate much of that dark streak in the foreground water, which is kind of distracting from your goal IMO. Plus, being off center I can imagine being in the blind looking into the distance, which gives more of that solitude effect you're after. Hope that's useful. Looks like it was a beautiful day for shooting.
