This dog reminds me a peanut's strip where Snoopy says, more ore less: "it's 5000

years that dogs ululate to the Moon. The Moon it's always the Moon. Dogs are always

dogs. All this means something, but don't know what".

Thanx for stopping by, please rate and let me know your comments.

[Dogs] pipe up more often during the night because they're nocturnal. But why do they point their faces toward the moon and stars when they [ululate]? It's all about acoustics since projecting their calls upward allows the sound to carry farther.

[Dogs] howl[/ululate] as a form of long-distance communication, conveying a range of information. Because of the high pitch and the suspension of notes, the sounds of [dogs ululations] can carry as far as 6 miles (9.6 kilometers) in the forest and even 10 miles (16 kilometers) across the treeless tundra.

[Dog ululations] serve as GPS systems, sing-alongs and fire alarms -- all rolled into one. In fact, the purpose of [dog ululations] isn't terribly different from the reasons humans raise their voices to the wind. In general, the primary reasons why [dogs ululate] include:

A rally cry for the pack to meet up

A signal to let the pack know of a [dog]'s location

A warning for outside [dogs] to stay out of a pack's territory

Since [ululations] bear coding for a [dog's] body size and health (with the larger animals exhibiting deeper tones), males can exercise their pipes to attract females.

Please note I claim no original title to the above enlightenment...google's gurglings

Rajat, thank-you very much to have enlightened me. I didn't know I was looking for enlightenment, but... it's ok! ;-)

Warren & jill, my friends, I think too it's as happy as well-feeded, but that perplex expression is priceless for me. I think we human beings should look at the world a bit more like bassethounds do! :-)

Thank-you all for commenting and rating.

An oversight. I had intended to place enlightenment within quote marks. Actually your remarks sent me on a hunt: why dogs/wolves ululate at the moon...

it's a splendid animal...i don't like its 'waistcoat' though...nor do i like animal collars for that matter

Dear Friend, I agree with you and this is the true meaning of the photo. I hate collars for animal and human, either real or metaphoric. I like freedom. the title indeed was allusive. I'm not unhappy, but the collar doesn't allow me to be really happy.

Dear friends, I appreciate very much your kind words, even on behalf of my dog friend.

Alle the comment show me how an image can hit people even when you do not expect.

I took this picture because I felt an immediate sympathy for this animal that to me has an expression that shows how much he has understood about life.

I decide to publish as an hommage to him and was sure that it would have been unobserved and would have remained without visit and comments and... I was completely wrong!

And as Snoopy said in the quotation I used to request your critiques: All this means something, but I don't know what!.

Thank-you again

Thank-you for your comment.

AK, I agree with you about the collar; indeed I have some doubt that this overweight gentleman will run around even without the collar :-))
