alberta_pizzolato 21 Posted April 28, 2009 Excellent, Pnina. Absolutely stunning. And the start of an interesting journey for me. I searched the internet for "Post Marta" and found a web site that described the joint project. From there, I selected a page that presented a short video of a most interesting dance: Ronit Ziv - Repertoire - Rose Can't Wait. Fascinating. Thanks for the journey, both entertaining and educational. Alberta Link to comment
pnital 36 Posted April 28, 2009 Les, Alberto, Jack,Amal , Fabrizio, and Alberta,I appreciate your personal impressions and if you read till the end you will have the 'picture "of the dance. Alberta, thanks for your interest. I will tell (all of you) about this dance what I know from Niv S. the choreographer and my personal impressions. It is called "Post Martha" according to thoughts following Edward Albee's film and theatre show " Who is afraid of Virginia Woolf". If you (and all participants so far) are familiar with that E. Albee's famous creation, where the woman is called Martha (and the man is George), you will have the connection of the name and inspiration....The photos previous to this one are fractions of the dance performed by Ronit Ziv, Adam Ben Zvi and Sivan Gutholtz ( and some others) . I photo dances , but take a fraction of a dance sentence that touches me especially. This dance has a very beautiful choreography.I post for you the links of the two frames from that dance, and I will upload some others of that creation in the near future. http://photo.net/photodb/photo?photo_id=8360337 Http://photo.net/photodb/photo?photo_id=8360391 ( Fabrizio, we wrote simultaneously...;-)) Link to comment

tibig 0 Posted April 29, 2009 We all want sometimes to get back to those happy early days. I'm not sure we do have direct memories from them. Your image quality is outstanding.Regards, Tibi Link to comment
gordonjb 10,860 Posted April 29, 2009 Thanks Pnina and Alberta for fleshing out the image with some background. I read Albee's play as a teenager and was so taken with that play that I subsequently read everything he had ever written and went on to become engrossed in the work of all the theater of the absurd playwrights of that period. This was my first introduction to the theater. I can see something of the fragile disjointed and yes absurd inner world of people and their relationships in this photo. The scattered memories, the scrambling to sort through, and even question the reality of all those interconnected events which cumulatively define who we are. The toning pushes this image more into the realm of the mind than a colour version would have. Link to comment
pnital 36 Posted April 30, 2009 David, Bobby, B.C, and Mario, thanks for your feedback. Spencer, glad to see you , thanks and Shalom . Tibi, thanks ,and I hope you have enjoyed Independence day ;-)) Gord, thanks for your detailed feelings., and history of your theatre experience. I saw the play and film of this Albee's creation, not an easy relationship.( to say the least, and Also his work " the American dream" ) It was interesting to see the dance creation which of course is not literally the play, but has some scenes that hints and reminds the play. I looked for a tone that will have some connection to the thought of what happens to our childhood memories after we are adults and older.... "The toning pushes this image more into the realm of the mind than a color version would have." I was really pleased to read this line Gord, thanks for your observing eye. Maurizio, thanks as well. cherlyn 1 Posted April 30, 2009 I like the idea & story behind this scene, Memories is a good title, those little toys around her does bring back one's childhood memories. Love the choice of tones here. Link to comment

bosshogg 4 Posted May 1, 2009 My favorite movie of all time is "Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf." So, a pleasant surprise to see this. I'm going to admit that I would not have seen the connection without your explanation, but I'm the first to admit that I'm not the brightest bulb on the Christmas tree. But once I'm channeled in that direction, I can see some correlations, and it becomes much more fascinating to me. The sense of living in an imaginary world that is much less painful, and yet still depressing seems to exude from the image. Very nice. Link to comment
pnital 36 Posted May 1, 2009 Cherlyn, thanks , I wrote some background for the dance , as dance is an abstract creation and long in general, I connects fractions of it to my inner world. Andrea, thanks, I 'm glad you liked the color tone. David, first I think you are dead wrong about yourself, my friend!...;-)) It is a fraction of the dance as I wrote, but I connected it to my impression and commentary, so I don't think any viewer would have connected it to the Albee's play.... without the background. "The sense of living in an imaginary world that is much less painful, and yet still depressing seems to exude from the image". Thanks David, it is a very nice commentary of yours, and I'm glad to read it. Link to comment
amilarakis 0 Posted May 1, 2009 Very interesting artistic photo with excellent composition and very good view angle. I like the title is very conforming. Congrats ! Link to comment
Guest Guest Posted May 1, 2009 I like the way you've handled the conversion and lighting on the little animal figures. The focusing is effective as well. There is distinction and detail in the foreground figures and then they trail off into the background, suggesting a sense that they go on and on. Some are highlighted and some are not, adding energy to her surroundings. The animals seem to be more a main subject than the dancer, who is more dark and looking down, whose highlights are not as rich. Interestingly, the perspective makes her whole body feel unintentionally big in the frame. The light on her dress is dazzling and catches the eye. I like the shine of the material. That seems to be the main focus about her. I don't find much grace in the pose or lighting on the dancer herself. The dim lighting is consistent and feels a bit static. Because of how she's slumped over, she feels heavy, weighted down. The complex shadows on her legs interrupt a smooth flow. Link to comment
pnital 36 Posted May 2, 2009 Thanks for your wide evaluation of what you like and don't in this photo. This one brought me a lot of thoughts , like what are the " weight" of memories in our life. Some memories are heavy and hard, some are more accentuated, vivid, sad, happy of our being, and some are blurred ,and stored in a corner of our brain, and heart. We are our memories, and if we loose them.....This brought me to look for the color tone, partly dim light, shadows, and I have also separated her from the other dancers in the scene( at the general rehearsal).
