Seems to me, a very strong construction of those satellite dishes, but a weak roof to hold them. The Moon and the dishes in a interesting position. How many hundreds of channels you can catch with them, and still seeing noting on the screen. Or seeing worthless, years and years repeating programs. I have a HDTV in my home, but a long lasting renovation, things piled up in one room, no television in the last two weeks. I don't even noticed. And it is going to be like that for a next two months, at list. My only connection to the media, "world", is my 12" iBook laptop computer.

A very interesting image, David.

I agree about television. I don't hardly watch it. I saw the moonbeams being caught by the satellite dish for home consumption made for an interesting thought. I'm also fond of the robotic arm beaming back into the face of its master.

the dishes are pointed in a wrong direction - the moon is straight up. The question arises - are they looking for ET life, or are they using them for TV? Another question - can you contstruct a functional dish out of V8 bottles? Cheers, Micheal

If anyone could construct anything out of V8 bottles, it should be you. I've cut way back on my V8 lately because I was trying to lower sodium intake. See, that's the good thing about wine. Low sodium.

As for the direction of the dish, we all know that moonbeams are capable of bending their trajectory when in an unobserved state. That's what makes them so damn hard to capture. But these dishes are oscillating multidirectional linearly accelerated particle enabled, and are up to the job. They brought in so many beams that the house glowed from within. Peace out.

The juxtaposition of moon and satellite dishes is brilliant. I find a touch of humor in the dishes pointing away from the moon. B&W is just right for this. A favorite...good shot!

I like the small size of the moon relative to the satellite dishes. One might see this as a sort of commentary on the relative importance to people of TV versus nature; of sitting on the couch versus enjoying the outdoors.

I'd like to draw you out a bit on that, "way too hard" comment. I know you to be pretty much a traditionalist in philosophy, but I'm curious to better understand your viewpoint here. I'm not being defensive, so I think I can be open minded about this subject. What I was trying to convey was the insane and goofy world we inhabit with all its appurtenances and foibles. It seemed to me that to do that I had to take some extreme measures to convey meaning. So are you saying that that approach is a detraction from the image and that it would be a better image if I had just made it "straight.?"

what I really like is that over a short period of time we got to feel comfortable enough to voice our opinions on eachothers photo's without holding back. In your words, nobody gets flamed because of that. What you described is what I called symbolic. The comment I made as way too hard has nothing to do with the actual content but is a technical matter. The house and trees could be processed a bit softer. While it wouldn't change the content or meaning it would look a bit more attractive.

As we sometimes do, we have a basic disagreement with an issue. You say it would not change anything to soften it up. I say that it is intended to add to the surrealism. Your point is well taken, so I guess we agree to disagree. Thanks for the input. I do appreciate it.

I'm going to use one of them ten buck words now but it's what popped into my head and I seldom get a chance to use it anyway so, this picture is sui generis. And isn't that what we really want to produce anyway, an image that doesn't neatly slip into some ready-made category. Nowadays, categorization seems to have become a stand-in for understanding. This picture goes directly to GO and collects $200!

My brain keeps trying to generate ideas to fit this photo.

Hey diddle, diddle,

The cat and the fiddle,

The cow jumped over the MOON,

The little dog laughed to see such fun,

And the DISH ran away with the spoon.

I think we should stick with your explanation instead. ;-)

Well, you sent me to the dictionary. From what I can tell, that was a compliment. Thanks. I think it was the tidal pull of the moon that caused me to lift up my camera and snap.

No offense, but I've seen better from you. I do think the line should have read, "And the DISH ran away with the MOON." But, then again, you ARE the poet.

I racked my brains for something that came closer to Hernandez, and failed. "House at least started with an "H." Not much gets past you.

Holy Crikey, I had to google sui generis myself. I tip my hat to our word-smith in Japan who encapsulated this expert photo in one phrase. I tip my hat twice to your off-beat, never boring, pushing the envelope, quirky, old collides with new vision that continuously entertains and amazes.

Thanks. Trouble is that next time I want to use a ten dollar word like that, I'll have forgotten it. Glad to see that even someone as smart as you didn't know it either. Pictures like this are way more common than derelicts on the street (although it is my theory that both are increasing in numbers), so I'm not sure it's particularly unique or special, or even sui generis. Ha, I used it! :)
