color 3 Posted May 22, 2008 I like the shot. I like the determination of the little girl. I can image that look on her face after she grows up. For me this needs a little more contrast. I copied this and applied a levels adjustment to it and am attaching that version to this critique. I hope you find it useful or at least interesting. Link to comment
bosshogg 4 Posted May 22, 2008 Thanks for your comments and for taking the trouble to show me your perception of the image. I think you have done it justice. Link to comment
BelaMolnar 2 Posted May 22, 2008 Hi David. You had had caught the moment very well. The serious face of the little girl, the darker background, and a placement of the subject, all perfect. The title is proper. It is a Movie title, and I using many time, for philosophical expression of life. In this case, it is humorous sweet moment from a little girl. Have a good day David. Cheers; Bela Link to comment
pnital 36 Posted May 22, 2008 Very good title, compatible to the subject in a larger context. I see it as symbolic to the context of our human life. Very good timing,I like as well the figures in the BG , hinting of running activity. The light and shadows on her face and body, and in general ,her placement on the frame are very well composed. I think that Chuck treatment added to it a bit more punch.Vey touching photo. Link to comment

bosshogg 4 Posted May 22, 2008 This was at the finish line of a ten k and two mile race. This youngster had walked and run the two miles, and when she saw the finish line she knew it was time to kick it in. I liked the strong side light and made an effort to capture her in it. The runners who had long ago finished the race in the dim background added just the right ambiance and context I thought. Link to comment
katzpjs 50 Posted May 24, 2008 It is always lonely at the front of the pack, but that's what leading is all about. Link to comment
bosshogg 4 Posted May 24, 2008 Thanks. It's also lonely at the back of the pack. I used to do a lot of running (until I got fat and old) and I found it a wonderful and liberating solitude. But always lonely. Link to comment
dberryhill 3 Posted May 24, 2008 I have come back to this several times, and each time I'm drawn in. The light, of course, makes it. But also there is the open space ahead of her, in the run and in life. And there is her look of serene determination. It's a very good picture. Link to comment
bosshogg 4 Posted May 25, 2008 Thanks. I hadn't thought of the analogy of life and space in front of one, as opposed to some of us who don't have so much space in front of us. I can always count on you to make the inexplicable and unseen understandable and well seen. Link to comment
Jack McRitchie 150 Posted May 25, 2008 This is a dandy, David, the color and positioning makes her look like she's about to take off float right out of the picture. I prefer this as a compositional/color piece than a picture tied to a particular event. Link to comment
bosshogg 4 Posted May 25, 2008 Thanks. I think you are absolutely right about not viewing it as a documentary of an event. Link to comment
tonmestrom 4 Posted June 2, 2008 David, there is much to like here. The way you framed it however suggests that you took this from too far away. If you crop out that foreground that would be corrected while those two runners in the back would emphasize your story somewhat more. It's not so much a critique, merely a suggestion. Link to comment
bosshogg 4 Posted June 3, 2008 It is funny how we differ on so many things. I felt the distance in front of her gave us a feeling for distance. I thought the image wasn't about the little girl as much as the distance and hardship of racing, and by extension, life. I saw the girl as young, but still a stand in for all of us. A sort of everyman if you will. I have done eight marathons and a great many shorter races, and to me, even if in a crowd, there is nothing so lonely as facing those miles. I tried to convey that. tonmestrom 4 Posted June 3, 2008 I don't think we differ that much. Point is though we tickle eachother constantly so as to try to look at it another way. That's the whole point of being here, isn't it. Link to comment
