dberryhill 3 Posted November 27, 2006 I'm always drawn with curiosity to these out of the mainstream Christian churches. And this one is certain out of the mainstream. What draws these people here? What did they find lacking in the name brand churches? They obviously have put a lot of work into this one. I think this says something about America; I'm just not sure what. This makes us look at ourselves as we are, which is a very good thing, whether we like it or not. Link to comment
bosshogg 4 Posted November 27, 2006 If you want my hypothesis it is that given all of our material wealth, we still cannot feel satisfied. So the quest becomes one of finding easy answers. That is why I think people are so easily lead by charlatans, and so willing to grasp this or that religion or the latest church to come along. I also believe that the same phenomenom is responsible for all of the silly diet, and self improvement schemes that come down the pike. We seem to be a nation addicted to easy answers, and, unfortunately, they are not always the right ones. Yeah, I'm a grumpy old guy. Link to comment
bosshogg 4 Posted November 30, 2006 Not sure if it refers to the music played, the place uppon which the building sits, or a hard core spiritual belief. Link to comment
alight 0 Posted December 19, 2006 Maybe this place is modeled on the monasteries in Greece, built on very high hills. Maybe "Solid Rock" is the name of the pastor. Ponderingly, Micheal Link to comment
bosshogg 4 Posted December 19, 2006 Or maybe it's a bunch of self-indulgent flakes that can never find satisfaction in whatever they are doing, and figured they had the secret. Link to comment
alight 0 Posted December 19, 2006 Yeah, Dave. Knowing the law "what goes up must come down", I would build a church in a valley. Looking at the lit cross, if I really stretch it, maybe: originally, the church had no official name so they call it "the place with so lit cross", and "so lit cross" morphed into "solid rock". Eh, actually, come to think of it, it would more likely morphed into "solid crotch". But then, maybe they thought the word "crotch" would sound weird in a church name. You know, Dave, this could get really confusing. Child-like? Definitely. Enjoying it? Immensely. Cheers, Micheal Link to comment

bosshogg 4 Posted November 26, 2007 Thanks. I do like to blend words with images. Glad you appreciate the feeble efforts of a feeble mind. Take care. Link to comment
trisha jean-angela 5 Posted May 1, 2011 A solid rock church built on a shaky and raised foundation...hmmm...very interesting statement made in this photo. I love the rock wall edging the steps. You have such a great eye for finding these very unique scenes which play on words and ideas so well! Very well done; thank you for sharing. :) Link to comment
