I photographed this Sardinian Swallowtail butterfly not with a macro lens but with the Sigma supertele 300-800 which was also excellent for macro. The minimum focusing distance is 6 meters, and the result is that it isolates the subject making the background completely out of focus. For this photo I should have closed the aperture more for a better DOF. Nikon D500, f / 6.3, 1/2500 sec, ISO 400. Thanks for your comments

Terrific capture of a real beauty of a butterfly with outstanding details and colors! The long lens certainly does a nice job of photographing larger insects like butterflies. Warmest regards, Todd

Giangiorgio, before seeing your comment of my photo of butterfly and take a look of your butterfly. Thank you very much for your comment. But your butterfly is really great, much better than mine. Best, Tina

Hi Giangiorgio,

a gorgeous portrait of this butterfly that really resembles the well-known papilio machaon. The long focal distance works very well here; ther is no background whatsoever, yet the DoF is pretty good. Well done! Kind regards, Vincent

Giangiorgio, although this image is a slight departure from birds, the butterfly keeps you in the ballpark by virtue of being able to fly. The background works perfectly, in my opinion, since it provides absolutely no distractions. You've given us a masterpiece of color and detail as a result. - - My best always, michael - - - Ciao!

Mille grazie Vincent, for your much appreciated comment, in Sardinia there is this variety, which differs little from Papilio machaon, for the colors of the spots on the wings. If I had closed the aperture more I would have had a better DOF , ciao Giangiorgio
