Cattle Egrets (Bubulcus ibis). At dawn I photographed these cattle egrets flying over the lagoon of Cagliari, from the top of a hill overlooking it, at a distance of about 1 km. In the image, the herons in white appear very close together, due to the compression effect of the telephoto lens. The shadow of the herons, in black on the water surface, better defines their exact arrangement in space. Nikon D850, Sigma supertele 300-800mm, f / 5.6, 1/2500 sec, ISO 1000. Thanks for your comments

Hi Giangiorgio. Another beautiful shot, I like the shadows on the water, and the golden colour of the water, Very warm.

Gold idea and picture, Giangiorgio! You make the viewer remember arithmetic and geometry! I tried to count all the characters and identify their shadows. Wonderfully captured! Bravo! Sincerely, Tatiana

Tatiana, I really appreciated your interesting comment and your effort for having counted and compared the shadows and the birds, I'm glad you liked it , ciao Giangiorgio

Hi Giangiorgio,

I have seen some wonderful photos made from that spot before, but this one is really something! The yellow-gold background is perfectly not distracting at all and I really like how the shadows are distorted by the waves of the lagoon. Another great detail is the wing of one bird just touching one shadow, forming a connection. Fine work! Kind regards, Vincent

Giangiorgio, this image surprised me a bit, since others of birds flying over a bright body of water have been totally silhouetted. Before I read your narrative, I had to look quite closely at the dark birds to confirm that their body structure isn't the same as the others. You are obtaining some outstanding results with the camera settings you mentioned. The contrasts in this image are spellbinding. - - My best always, michael - - Ciao!

I read your introduction twice and I think I understand why the shadows don't exactly coincide with the position of the birds, Giangiorgio! I can see a beautiful music in this photo composition! My sincere compliments, my friend! PDE
